Default is it wise to buy used tires

Greetings...I was recently offered a set of used Contis for my 2010 C4S, they look great and there aren't any wear spots or holes or dings, just the unmounted tires...any suggestions?

Check the DOT date code. It's listed on the sidewall as a four digit code for work week (01-52) and two digit year. As long as they are not too old go for it.

Who will examine them for you to make sure they are safe?

Thanks...they are from 2015 and have at least 9/32" on them...I don't really have a way to check them until they get mounted, however, the price is right and at some point I will definitely need tires

and this is my first 911

thanks for the input!

I do it all the time after spending $1,100 for new rears before a track weekend. Get the DOT and don't buy anything more than 4 years old.

I have bought plenty of experienced tire off of Kijijijijijijijj.
Check the date code. Try and make sure they come in pairs.
Stay away from a patched tire if you can.
One this that is very difficult to spot in a dismounted tire? Is a side wall buBble.
If you can, buy them mounted and balanced. Smart shopping... $1400/4 for 15000kms, or $6oo for 10,000 of hooligan-ness
I try and have my next set staged in the garage for when I need them. You never find "the deal" when you are looking and in need.

Not an issue at all buying used tires if they are in good shape and relatively new. I've done it several times and saved quite a bot of $$, especially when my regular tire is out of stock an di need tires fast.

I sell perfectly good tires when I either want to try something new, or I want to get new wheels and just sell the old wheel + tire set. I would say that given price versus performance you would drive on much better tires for the same low budget if you navigate this successfully.

Age matters, and heat cycles matter, too. If they are performance tires they should not be stored in freezing temperatures, even when not used at all. People putting their summer set into an unheated shed in northers winters ruin at least some kinds of tires, including the Michelin PSS.

Can you expand on this? What would be the difference between storing summers away for the winter in unheated shed vs storing the car for the winter with summer tires on in unheated garage?

Freezing temperatures, especially in repeated cycles, make the performance tire compound go brittle. The outer 1/5th of a PSS tire is a performance compound.

Whether regular summer rated compounds are affected is the same manner seems to depend on the specifics of the tire.
