For reliability, manual is easier to service and maintain but engine is prone to damage due to lugging and over revving. On the flipside, PDK is very expensive to maintain and service but the engine is less likely to have been over revved or lugged around.

I would go with the PDK because it has the newer DFI engine and if your going to daily the car, having an automatic might make your commute a lot more cohesive.

...because in order to make a qualified risk assessment you'd need to have information like production numbers vs major repair events for each option. however that information is not available. all there is is anecdotal evidence.

1 vs 2, pick one (or don't!)
I think it's pretty clear that the DFI engine is by far more superior than the M96/97 engine. Despite the fact that the PDK can be a reliability risk, Porsche has overall been pretty successful with the DFI engine.

had both with those transmissions.

The .1 had more go wrong with it. biggest being it wouldnt start after engine off at temp - alternator line was bad. the .2 was way more solid. in 4 years the only issue was a failed headlight leveling sensor clamp.

for a DD the PDK is better. I was amazed at how well it handled HPDE days.

But of those two id pick.... the .1 I miss having a manual. and the Sport exhaust on the .1 sounds absolutely sweet. but I dont DD them.

Thanks everyone...all thoughts and perspectives are helpful. Absolutely a full risk analysis would require a lot more data than we have or can probably get, but just struggling with the decision and options as budget is a constraint I want to keep to.

For me, more chance of a 997.1 engine/components go wrong than a 997.2 PDK.
Get a 997.2 manual, just have to wait for it
