DMV failed emission test
It seems since my OBD II reads OK, the DMV computer is not linking properly. At any rate the CEL came back on the next morning. I checked the fuse and it is OK. When B1 removed the car will run, but the power to the OBDII is absent. Maybe I do have a secondary air pump issue even though I can hear it spinning. Now I have to complete the drive cycle again for another attempt. Very unfortunate.
The CEL was reset and driven through the drive cycle per the Bentley Manual specifications Here are the parameters. 1) idle in P for 2min 10 sec. 2) drive 20-30 mph for 3 min 15 sec. 3) drive 40-60 mph for 15 min. 4) idle in gear 5 min. This was completed in about 40 miles. I had to do this 2 times to get the monitor ready status. On the next clear weather day I took the car back to the same shop (they owed me a retest) The same machine would not communicate just as before. On the other machine available, communication was not happening until they wiggled the cable. It then passed.
I will not go back to that shop again. The good news is I get another 2 years of registration in Cali. After about a week the CEL has come on again, just like it has been, but nonetheless, it has passed the test. I was becoming very disappointed about with this situation because it can get very expensive to resolve these issues and I love driving the car. So for now, I am good to go for another 2 years. I hope to put at least another 10K miles on it before then. Its got 146K on the clock now.
