Default Temperature Failure Indicator

Hey Guy's
On cold start this morning my 997.2 threw this error! My temperature needle didnt move for few minutes and the red light on temperature gauge was flashing!
Once it was warmed up; within 5 minutes error went away and needle went back to normal position.
Pulled out manual and it says it could mean "Coolant is low" but i checked coolant its fine.

What could this mean?

I have the same issue on a 2005 997.1. Did you ever figure out the resolution?

I recently had an intermittant problem like this. In my 997.2 the coolant temp gage periodically went to 0 and a warning light lit up for a few seconds. Also the same message was displayed "temperature (icon) failure indicated" Then back to normal reading, no error.

In my case I replaced the temperature sensor ($20) and that took care of the problem.

YMMV

Have the same error message and symptoms on my 2009 997.2, but the temp gauge is showing the correct number. Where can I find this sensor and what is the part number ?
Many thanks for your reply

On the 997 MK1 the sensor is very easily accessible and can therefore be tested. You can hold it in water of different temperatures and see whether the temperature is qualitatively correct. If this is not the case, the cluster could be defective.
I have no idea how complicated the access of that sensor will be, this shows the sensor-location of MK2-engines:

You must also check whether the symptoms indicate a defective thermostat!
