My '09 C2S Weighs........ ???
2009 C2S MT 113K miles
I just weighed my car... wait for it...... 3,280 LBS. Manual denotes for MT Coupe S: Empty Weight depending on equipment: 3,142 LBS to 3,351 LBS What I had in my car: - 50 LBS of gas (1/2 tank gas = 1/2 16.9 Gal * 6 lbs gal) - 10 LBS of crap est. (Jumper cables, Smitty plug kit, tire gauge, Durametric cable, neck pillow, 2 towels, bug spray, sunglasses, 4 rogue M&Ms, 27 Doritos pieces, 1 sneeze) - Sharkwerks bypass.... I guess that reduces by what, 20lbs? I don't know what the 80 LBS of optional equipment is .... I would have to look at an order guide... but it would be (I guess) Navigation, seats and the like. Peace Bruce in Philly |
sounds like something fun to do. How did you weight it ? Do you just drive on to one of those weight station for transport truck ?
|
What was the accuracy and tolerance of the scales?
+/- 1% is more than a 60 lb range... Karl. |
Well you certainly won't be able to get to the 3142lbs lower limit since even a no-option car in North America comes with a sunroof which adds quite a bit of weight at the top of the car. Only euro cars could have a sunroof delete with the 997's, kinda sucks.
For other weight adders... electric seats, bose speakers, dynamic cornering lights all add up. Just the sunroof, seats, and bose could easily make your 80lbs. I weighed my 6MT GTS at over 3300 lbs with half a tank of gas... these cars are a lot heavier than you would think! |

I just weighed my car... wait for it...... 3,280 LBS http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...trumented-test It had PDL, Bose and 14-way seats. Basically the same as what you measured for your car. Porsche's 'official' weights for 6MT 997.2 models are:
The delta between DIN and EC is the addition of a 75 kg driver. Seems that:
Not listed above is PDK, but it adds 66 lbs. I'd guess ~3,350 lbs for my C2S w/PDK & 18-way sports seats per Bruce's and C&D's numbers... Karl. |
Another positive mark for Porsche... If Ferrari claimed a weight of 3,100 to 3,300 you can be damned sure they were weighing the car without window glass, seats, tires, wheels, brakes and engine... and the onroad weight would be nearer 4,000 lbs with those "options" added back in.

How to get your car weighed...... I went down to our township dump. They have two big scales... I just drove down and parked right on top of one.... walked over to the window and asked the guy what it read.
I have no idea what the accuracy of the scale was. FYI, my 2000 Boxster S is spec'd to weigh 2,855..... wow. That was a light car... no wonder I loved the handling...... low weight, mid engine, and a perfectly tuned spring/shock system. Our 911s are porkers... no reason for it other than Porsche doesn't care and wants to cater to the higher volume poser market. Peace Bruce in Philly |
911s are light when you compare them to their competitors. It's a GT car that is as close to a sports car as you can get.

You forgot the worst offender... the ever imposing governmental agencies.

Bruce: You're posts make a lot of sense but this one not so much. Dave
So they really care about capturing more of those sales and that means a fat, heavy car. They do a fairly good job of it in this day and age, although I have zero interest in a 991. For me personally, way past why I fell in love with Porsches. I miss the days when all they made was sports cars... |

I am always annoyed when I open and close my door.... it is huge, fat, and heavy... no reason for this other than what GM learned a long time ago: You pay a lot of money, you want a big, heavy, solid door. Marketers learned this a long long time ago. For a "true" sports car, I drove a Lotus Elise... wow... light.... fun... yeeha!!! But the masses are not going to pay big bucks for a tuna can. As Henry Ford the XXX? once said to Iaccoca: "mini cars equal mini bucks." If you are going to charge a ton, you have provide your customer with something substantial. Peace Bruce in Philly |

Peace Bruce in Philly You can strip your car out or go with lightweight panels if you want to shed weight. I like how quiet and solid feeling my car is. I think of the 997S as a GT car. They sell the GT3 and Cayman range if you want a true "un-compromised" sports car. I drive my S2000 when I want a sports car experience. It's faster than a GT3 around a track and doesn't feel like a tuna can. |
