Hello my name is Chris and I just wanted to say hi. I'm a long time lurker and I finally decided to join. I currently have an e46 M3 as my weekend car. I had originally planned to replace it with a 997 but I have grown quite fond of it (even though a 997 is better in almost every way). My plan now is to pick up a 997 S or 4S to accompany it within the year when I see the right one come up. I look forward to meeting some of you hopefully and thanks to everyone for posting all the great info available on this site!

Welcome. I came from an E46 M3 as well. One of my all time favorite cars.

Welcome. Former E90 ZCP owner here... I'm keeping my eye open for the right E46 to add when it comes along.

911s are amazing vehicles, among the best out there. You're in a good place

You are in good company. Seems like a lot of BMW owners gravitate to Pcars.

Welcome, owned a SMG E46 M3 Dinan modified with their suspension, supercharger, and 3.91 rear differential. Had it for a little over ten years and drove it for 85,000 miles. Tracked it once, or twice a year. Purchased a fully equipped 2011 speed yellow PDK 997.2 C2S with 12,000 miles on it 2 years ago.

Really liked my M3 and transitioning to a 997 was a good fit for me. In the early eighties had a late 70's 911S, so not new to rear engine driving and steering. My thoughts is the 997 is similar to e46. When they both came out, they became the new benchmarks for their class and raised the bar on both performance and looks for M3's and 911's brands.

Separately, wish I knew then how much a late 70's 911S would be worth today.

Made me pull a pic just to remember!

I just did exactly what you are proposing! I do miss my E46 -- but wouldn't trade back! Go for it!

By the way, attached is a couple of shots of my former Dinan E46 M3

I'm exactly in the same boat - P car soon, current BMW owner.

@TurboGoat324 - Welcome man! When you get your 997, take a look at the link below. It's a great guide to learn everything about the car and also to save some $$ doing your own maintenance and fixes. Best of luck!

Welcome. So much great information to learn here.

And as you've noted, a lot of current and former M3 owners here... me included.

A lot of E46 owners, I guess no love for The Beast?! I loved my E39 M5. Meisterschaft full exhaust, Evolve Tune, I forgot the intake...but she roared. Sadly let her go, but then got in my first Porsche...2007 Cayman S. Good lord, she was wonderful.

Now the 997.2 GTS seems like its happening when I get back home to the states in a few months, and I cant wait!

Break break

SWO daddy, gorgeous car. What do you enjoy more, that or your ship?

Apologies for briefly hi-jacking the thread.

I'm assuming you're an academy guy based on screen name. SWO as well based on ship reference? If you haven't already discovered, you'll find that there are many prior and current military members here. Nice to have that common bond in addition to the love for Porsche.

To answer your question, I dearly love going 40 plus knots on the water with my Sailors. It's about the sea, the spray and the team working together to make it happen.

Very different experience for me driving the 911. That's more about the solitude, focus and precision of driving an incredible machine carving up the road.

Academy guy yes, not a SWO. Marine Pilot. I am trying to convince more friends to get them, after having an Audi S4, Mercedes S500, and E39 BMW M5...Porsches are by far the most fun, and most reliable German vehicle I have had the pleasure of owning/driving.
