AP Racing brakes opinion
Was wondering if anyone used AP racing brakes as an upgrade to their 997.1 4 pots?
Seems most go for brembos or upgrades from the GT3/Turbo.
The lightweight design of the new AP CP9660 got me wondering if the brakes would be a good upgrade to our cars.

Burning Brakes
AP used to last longer than OEM/brembo at the track, but that is a dated factoid
AP is known to be very racing oriented, and dust seals had to be replaced much more frequently than the Brembos. This was due to their full race design, where it's expected that one is fully rebuilding calipers regularly.
Unless you are field a world challenge car I expect it is driving instruction, braking less/later and having fresh well bled RBF600 that will suffice

Hello Gents,
We haven't released an official kit for the 997 yet. We're actually looking for a 997 to measure. If anyone is willing to let us take a peek at their car, please let us know. We will make it worth your while!
We are just getting ready to launch our front kit for the 987 Boxster S/Cayman S next week. This kit uses the CP9660 Radi-CAL caliper. We are offering a rear kit as well, which will launch in a couple more weeks:
Front Essex Designed AP Racing Radi-CAL Competition Brake Kit for 987 Boxster / Cayman S
Rear Essex Designed AP Racing Radi-CAL Competition Brake Kit for 987 Boxster / Cayman S
Our research tells us that the above kits should fit perfectly on a base 2005-2008 997 (non-S). Again, we need to get our hands on a car to verify however.
If you want to see more about how our kits compare to the OEM equipment, please check out the videos below. In that video I compare our kits to the OEM Brembo brakes from a Camaro SS, which are very similar in design and specification to what is found on a 997. Also, check out our blog for a ton of owner reviews and feedback on our kits!
More videos on our kits on our YouTube channel:

What trim level of 997 do you have?
We're currently trying to work with a 997 GTS (5 lug) owner to get his car to our facility for measurement. Every time we secure one though, the owner disappears! Please check in with me in a few weeks for an update.

I have a 997.2 GTS center lock with the crappy 4 piston 330mm iron rotor set up. I would gladly give you my car, but we are 3000 miles apart! Any chance your new 991 394mm front/380mm rear kits will bolt up to my car with 19" wheels?

And your question is a good 1.
Original poster what problems are you having with your current brake set up? If you tell us what issues you're having with the stock set up then we can point you to what type of upgrade you might need whether it be pad compound, fluid choice, or maybe even inexpensive 20 dollar spacers in order to throw on a 350 mm front rotor would do the trick but it's hard to offer suggestions without knowing what issues you're having

Porsche brakes are pretty darn good as is. On one of my past Carreras I upgraded my brakes and the only real difference I could tell at the track was I could break really late. So unless I moved up into a competition class where there was passing in the corners I would say the cost to upgrade my brakes was not worth the benefit.

The benefit of a BBK is consistent late braking hundreds if not thousands of times without dangerous failure. Most of the time it will also improve 100-0 MPH braking distances. But that also depends on pad friction coefficient. If you don't care for those benefits, then a BBK, especially on a Porsche, is not a benefit.
