Default 2005 997.1 Day 2 - Major Coolant Leak --- Possible Water Pump?

All:

I would appreciate your help. I just bought a 2005 Carrera with 77k. I've driven it about 100 miles and the water temp light came on. About 2 mins later I was pulling in the driveway and realized it was leaking coolant. Gushing coolant at the driver rear area.

It may have been making a noise. I'm not sure. I chalked all the noises up to "typical porsche noises" since I have always heard they made some weird noises.

The leak was not around the reservoir, but more around the pulleys.

I haven't taken the air box off to investigate yet. I just turned the car off and inspected visually.

It could be a hose/hose clamp or I'm thinking after reading more that it is the water pump?

What is the easiest way for me to inspect the water pump? Do I need to take the air box and serpentine belt off to check the water pump's pulley? Is that diagnostic?

I plan to go ahead and do quite a bit of PM/General maintenance at same time if it is the WP.

Thanks & I really appreciate your help

Jake

High probability its your water pump. Changed mine following DIY on this site. Plenty of threads discussing water pump and thermostat replacement. Some suggest removing rear bumper cover but I found there is plenty of access by removing rear wheels and mufflers/cats. Might as well replace plugs, coil packs, serpentine belt while they are accessible.

Thanks for the feedback. Everything I'm reading is pointing to the WP.

I've already made a parts list for new plugs/coils, serpentine, etc per the writeup.

Bought most of what I needed from Pelican Parts, but was surprised to find the OEM coil packs at local AutoZone for less.

I suggest doing the resivior as well. It's it's the original one it's time. Also the small hose that connects the water pump to the thermostat
