7 week newborn in the "garage". Went through similar decision, opted to keep the 997 and bought wife Macan GTS as baby mover. Doesn't mean you should or can. But if you DO have the choice/means, consider it. There have been moments during the existence of our baby, where a 15 minute drive in the 997 was the ONLY thing that made me feel like I existed as more than just "hired help" in my new life. It's a phase, it will pass. Just remember, however you solve this decision, keep something in your life that will remind you that YOU are still a person. Then the baby starts smiling, it all gets amazing.
Congrats to you and your wife!

One old mans advice - keep it and buy a used Panamera! Over my 69 years I have owned more then 18 Porsches of various types - I am now down to two and I regret every one I have sold. Keep them all if you can, give them to your children - they will love you even more for that act. I realize economics will factor into this but a nice used Panamera can be had for high 20's to low 30's.

OP: you know your car has a back seat that's useful for carrying kids, right?
Your 997.2 is in the sweet spot of the depreciation curve. Cheap to own at this point. A Panamera? Not so much.
I say keep the 997 and go grab a cheap lease on a 3-series for those days you need something with four doors.

If you have always dreamed about a Carrera, keep it. If you were 25, 35, 45 or whatever adult age and decided one day, month or year that you wanted a "sports car" because you have "arrived" sell the car because you will hate it if you have to transport a kid under 5 on a regular basis. You are going to have to really love the car to deal with it as a transport vehicle with a baby/child strapped into a chunk of plastic and metal.
With that said, 3 Series sedan leases are phenomenal right now. Everyone wants a X model.

Keep it. I'm 36 and sold my 2006 C2S when we had our first kid thinking I would need to wait 20 years to get back in a 911. About a year ago, and the same month our second kid was born, I bought a base 2010 C2 and leased a ford fusion for 2 years, nothing down and $220/month. Having kids is freaking amazing but also magnifies the need for an "outlet".
The 997.2 now has a car seat in the back and is an awesome bonding experience for my son and I. He is 3 years old and knows everything about porsches. The other day I said - look Owen, there is a black 911 like daddy's...he said yea dad but that's a 4S. He's freaking 3. Keep it. Lease a Fusion. When I sold my first 911 I leased a BMW 550i as an all around family car. It was REALLY nice, but it wasn't special.

Before my first daughter arrived we bought an SUV - you quickly realize that kids grow real fast and that before you know it they will be able to scramble into the back seat all by themselves.....
So if I were to do it again would I sell a coupe and buy and SUV? Probably not, keep the coupe and the kids will love it as they grow up - believe me the car they have to get into by themselves will become their favorite!!
