Default 997.2 wheel in my Maritime Carrera

Easy swap at the dealer, no fuss, everything works. I love the contemporary look. And it feels great in the hand. Car is aging well!

PS, my previous wheel was multi-function. If I had had no multi function I'd have to had purchased a steering wheel control unit for the horn to work - $319 from Suncoast.

Dealer charged ~$200 for the switch.

Looking good!

But you're saying that's the reason you didn't need the control unit? Seems counter intuitive. I believe I seen people swap a 997.1 sport (non multi-function) for a 997.2 sport and said it worked without the control unit. Yet in other cases it seems the control unit was needed. I'm still confused on when the control unit is needed and when it isn't for this swap to work.

My understanding - if you've got a multi-function wheel you will not need to install a control unit for the horn to work. There are many threads on this swap.

Again, the specifics of my swap, a single data point, multi-function 997.1 wheel swap to no-function 997.2 wheel, no control unit needed for horn to work. YMMV

The wheel looks nice but I think I would miss the multifunction.

Same ... in truth it's really just the volume controls re functionality but it's hard to let that go.

I did reach for the volume on the wheel a few times on my first drive! Old habits die hard I guess. I'll need to retrain my muscle memory!

So this is only a $300 part?

For clarification sake. If I have a 997.1 non-multifunction wheel what is needed to swap to this non-multifunction wheel?

Rod you would need three items;
Steering wheel - Suncoast for ~$1,000 or less on eBay - if you can find one
Airbag - Suncoast for $1,500 or on eBay for ~$500 - many available
Steering wheel control unit - from Suncoast for $319 (not returnable). This unit allows the horn to function after a swap.

this makes sense. I misread the original post and thought the wheel was much more Than $300

I have that same wheel. If you think you love it now, wait a few months!!!. It is just the right thickness and firmness. And the 10 and 2 o'clock bulges (there is probably a name of that) make it is even more comfortable. If I ever sold my GTS this wheel might be the thing I missed the most!

And if you care (that is into small mods), someone posted their technique for coloring the thin position indicator (small strip of leather at the 12 o'clock position - a la a GT3). Sorry that I can't remember who posted it but I ma pretty sure it was within the past year. Not really my thing but the pictures that went along with the post looked really nice.
