Hey guys I want to change out the Nav in my car with either the Alpine INE-W967HD or the Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX. Does anyone have any experience with these? Also, Don't I need a bose wiring harness and an adapter for steering wheel controls??

Regarding the Alpine.... I had the current model that plays CDs in my car for a short time and I didn't like it. The MP3 player from the USB stick, something I always use loaded up with music, will only play in the order the files were written. .... WTF??? And it said that in the manual. This is a complete deal breaker for me. Also, the file limitations were way greater than what the PCM3 does.... unbelievable for a product that is supposed to be one of the best out there.
Other nits.... no ****... those up/down arrows are awful. The device that links the steering wheel controls to the unit is SLOW..... to change the volume you have to pressssssssss and waittttt............ sheesh!
Download the manual and dig around in there.

I love my Pioneer Apple carplay. Does everything I need and updates the console dramatically over the stock HU. I'm fairly certain you will need an adaptor which is easily sourced online once you choose your HU.

I see Suncoast has an aftermarket radio install kit for $225 plus $550 for the Bose adapter, so $775. I'd be tempted if I could get a decent head unit with Apple play or even just BT handsfree and streaming for around $300. I don't want or need NAV in the head unit, as I prefer using the one in my phone. Anyone put such a system in their 997.1 with Bose?

The Pioneer AVH-4200NEX is the one without a builtin Nav unit. But it has Apple car play and Android auto so you can use your Nav from your phone. Half the price of the AVIC-8200NEX unit which has the built in Nav.

Random question for the audience:
I purchased my car with an Alpine HU with SiriusXM, GPS antennae, etc. If I were to swap it out with an updated Pioneer HU can I use my existing wiring and directly plug into the non-Alpine HU? Or would I need to configure a separate wiring harness, replace the Sirius antennae, etc.?
I want to update my aftermarket HU but I'm not sure if it's something I can do on my own, or if custom wiring would be required.

Chances are the Sirius and GPS antennas can be reused. But the head unit wiring harness itself will likely be different between manufacturers. If you stayed within the Alpine family you might get lucky with the harness being the same.
To confirm, download the user manuals for both models you are considering. Then check the pinouts to see if there are differences. Even if they match 100% the connector itself might be different, so check out the rear images too. But the GPS and Nav antennas will likely use a Fakra connector. Some are normal size, others mini, but pigtails converting from one style to another are less than $5 on eBay.

My installer noted that they had really bad luck reusing GPS and Sirius antennas and always install new units. I don't get it but they have the experience. IIRC, they install the GPS antenea inside the cabin, under the dash via access by removing the side panel of the dash (gotta open the door). The Sirius antenea can go under the wiper cowling next to the battery... they make a bracket to push it up so it touches the cowling.
