First 10 responders will make my decision
OK, had Michael Jourdan price out my Fidelity Platinum policy. 2008 C2S Cabrio Tiptronic 9100 miles. I need opinions. I PLAN on driving perhaps 10k miles per year but could possibly go over. Should I go with 7yr 100k miles @ $3471, or 8yr 80k miles @ $2900? Not sure if miles or time is more important and want to get your take. Both are for $250 deductible. Add about $400 more to the policy for $100 deductible. Want to purchase this in the next couple days. Appreciate the feedback.

I'd do the 7yr plan. $500 more over seven years to let you not have to watch the mileage as much isn't so bad.
[stop reading here as you didn't ask about this] Man 7 years sounds like such a long time to keep a car. For me, it would be tough to not consider swapping a tip for a pdk in a few years as prices keep falling.

Of the 4 policies I have purchased. Three were a loss and a waste of money. Non were for Porsche's.
The fourth policy for my BMW x5? Cost me $35oo ish.
So far this year, oil filter housing gasket repair $12oo, then oil starvation 3oo kms later, smoking the bearing off the rod. I think related, though denied. New longblock @$25k, and just last week transmission cooler @$12oo.
By my math, I'm up by about 25k on the policy.
All of these are just insurance policies.
Depending on you mileage per year? I would push for the time, up the deductible. If you are buying the policy at a Porsche dealer? They will often give you a slight discount, as they will be getting the repairs most likely....
But you have to ask.

Is the policy transferable to a subsequent/next owner? There would be greater value to you selling it to the next person???

I would only buy one if it covered bore scoring. Besides that it's a stout car. Better find out if it's exclusionary or not, and what's not covered. It's not a fair comparison of the Bremer to the Porsche. Go read the jalopnik story on crappy M motors that are designed to grenade after 5 years or so. So my vote is save your money

I'd go for the 8 year policy if you have to get one of those warranties. Having come from NJ and knowing the roads, traffic, and winters, my guess is that you will drive less miles per year than you think.

Well I waited 40 years to get this car and spent a lot of money on it. right now it's my dream car and don't see the need to sell or buy another. Could change but I doubt it. It's pretty much a brand new car now. Owning for another 7-10 years is not a stretch at all.

These are always interesting discussions, and ultimately it comes down to how much risk you are willing to take. I've purchased extended warranties on two Porsches in the past, including my current 997 TT. I didn't use either of them, so they were a waste of money. I had the same experience with another car brand in the past. Personally, I will not buy another extended warranty. I think they are a waste of money. That being said, I'm sure there are plenty of stories out there about people who bought a warranty and it saved them thousands of dollars in repairs. Only you can make the choice that suits you....
