Fahrer, I bet that bill was like 1,500.00 all told. phew!
I changed my coolant reservoir today, pre-emptively. it's 7 yrs old and had a visible split/fracture line (vertical) in the middle. it wasn't too difficult.
I didn't drain the coolant, I siphoned the tank almost dry and dropped the engine.
no way to get it out/in unless you drop the engine.
it's a Porsche part 2 yr warranty.
now I have the old one, i'm going to take measurements and see if it is feasible to get a fabricator to make it metal.
someone with a cad/3d printer is 90 percent there. I am old school, but handy making drawings. we'll see. maybe mttiw

I made my own coolant tank out of aluminum for my motorcycle a few years ago. It was a lot of work - I would not want to be paying someone to make that. You can see some of what I went through to do it here: http://jhsaudio.com/images/110318_ducati_work/
Pictures 59-93.

ducati_john, very impressive. I wish I had your machine shop and knowledge. now I know enough to know I don't know enough

I can picture in my mind what I want but making it materialize is a different story.
