2) On Saturday, 9/17, the PCA open house in Columbia MD (https://www.pca.org/event/2016-07-05...pen-house-2016). Great place to see other cars and owners and learn more about the PCA.

3) On Saturday, 9/24, I drive in the Parade Laps for the Potomac PCA Cup Races (https://pcapotomac.org/activities/club-race). I am the 2005 entry in a string of cars dating from 1991 to present. Shenandoah circuit.

Wow, I can't believe how it all came together! My wife is not as thrilled...

I turned 60 14 years ago and do not drive and only aim all my toys!!

Default Thanks

Thanks to all for the good wishes. I will be 60 tomorrow, but I usually don't feel it. The 911 is one reason why I feel younger than that. I'm supposed to get some photos as part of the track event Saturday, so I'll post them. I know that many of you are used to track driving, but this will be my first. I'm a virgin!

Happy birthday...hope you enjoy the roads out to WV...I used to live in Bethesda and the rolling hills beyond Potomac to Shepherdstown WV were my favorite for a half day drive/ride.

I recommend driving real fast and spending hours with 28yo with big t**ts. If you've been married long enough take video of both or your wife won't believe you. Been married real long she'll just sigh and say damn you're immature. Brag and post videos for all to see. Enjoy every minute. Life is short.

Very encouraging! Congrats! I passed 60 9 years ago but I don't feel it at all especially when I drive the Porsche!

Default HPDC

I went to the High Performance Driving Clinic yesterday at Summit Point MotorSports Park, in WV, and it did not disappoint. An overview below, for those of you who have not done this (all done in groups of about 11 cars, each with one instructor per car).

1 - Class time reviewing the basics of car dynamics (braking, etc.)
2 - Skid pad with instructor in the passenger seat
3 - Practice sessions with threshold (right up to ABS point) braking in straight and turn conditions, avoidance maneuvering, and slalom handling. First set with instructor driving and the rest with him in the passenger seat.
4 - Class time on performance driving (on the track); turn management and safety protocol
5 - Three sessions of driving on the Jefferson circuit (about 1-1/4 mi?), at 20 minutes each, plus 3 laps with the instructor driving.

Here's my comments:
- The program and facility were great - you could tell they had done this many times
- The instructors were fantastic; for those of you who have not done this - you cannot believe how your car can be driven (and perform) until a top driver does it on a track. My instructor steadily improved me throughout the day.
- If you have not driven your car on the track (as I had not), you don't really know what you are driving (as I did not). I could not believe how much more performance was available in this car, limited only by me.
- Out of 32 cars, 5 were non-Porsche. Note that a nice Infinity with a very good novice driver had to check his car after each track session because he felt something was wrong. Turned out his battery mounting was coming loose, although he was able to fix it. Testimony that most non-Porsche wannabes (the ones that act up on the street) cannot hold up under real driving stress. A few really hot P-cars in the class: 2012 AWD Turbo (I could not believe how that thing took off!), a 2011 GT3, and a 2016 Boxster GTS.

In summary:
- The PCA is a fantastic organization and the HPDC is an incredible value. $275 for an all day event like this seems unmatchable.
- For those of you who have not done anything like this with your 997, I highly recommend it. It changed my entire perspective on my car. I'm not saying you have to do an event like this, but I am saying that if you don't, you are not getting the point of these incredible machines.
- I am now decidedly less interested in the appearance of the car, and much more interested in the "go" of the car.

The first photo is at daybreak as we set up for our first session. Beautiful day, but hot. Second photo is my car back in the garage - I don't want to wash off my car number.

Wow, that's a little bizarre. My wife can handle the driving real fast part, but not the second. Been married 31+ years, and I'm not about to test those waters.

Good for you - It's comments like that that keep me thinking I still have plenty of good years left. Thanks Tommy.
