Default Unable to fuel up

On several occasions I have been unable to add fuel to my 2007 4s. The gas tank seems to be pressurized and won't take in fuel. I have to restart the engine and shut it down and it then works. Any idea what is causing this?

The start/stop of the engine and it works is rather odd.

I had the issue where I could put in 7 gallons and then the pump would constantly shut off. I would try and fill as slowly as possible and finally get it full.

I found that Porsche makes a ring, 99720194400, for just this issue. I am in CA, so the fill nozzle seals over the fill tube. The ring fixed the issue!!

Cheapest thing you will ever buy from Porsche!! $8

My issue is I can't put any fuel in initially. Not even a tenth of a gallon.

Turn the nozzle 180 degrees. You will eventually see more 997 guys like that on the gas station. Several threads here about it.

The ring mentioned seem to solve the issue for most people.

Exactly what I have to do at most stations... I did notice if I fill up at a Tesoro station, I don't have to rotate handle, it just works.

All the above. Its a known issue for us C4S owners. There is an extra bend in the fuel pipe on the C4S due to the 4WD that causes back pressure on some pumps (im in California).

Porsche makes a cheap ring, and you can turn the pump handle 180 degrees in the mean time. The ring slides over the filler hole and doesnt interfere with the locking of the cap.

I freaked out and made a post about it here the first time it happened. Did a search, called my pcar mechanic buddy and had the ring a few hours later.

I put the ring on 18 months ago. Thought I had a fix. Worked great for a dozen fill ups. Not so much since.

I can only get 5/8 to 3/4 tank, even with the ring.

This is more a CA thing with the vapor recirculation cap. I am surprised to hear that this is an issue in TN. Re the CA recirculation issue, the 180deg rotation of the nozzle tends to work well.
