New Panamera - What do you guys think?
I am sure this has been discussed before, but I was looking at the new micro site for Panamera and it is definitely very intriguing car indeed. It looks significantly better than the old one, has some super cool technology, and seems to have a fantastic bi-turbo V8 engine!
Any thoughts from 997 owners?

I like it - I have a 2015 S Class that will be moving on in a couple of years and this is high on my list as a replacement. I have driven several Panameras and they do handle well for a big car. On the track as well as on the road. It is not a 911 but it is not meant to be - it is a Porsche, just larger and now better styled. Do not hate these cars until you driven them.

From the pictures I have seen, I think it looks better than the original, particularly the rear roof/window section. It is also a new car, based on a platform to be shared with other VW group brands as I understand.

much better than the original but I still don't love the rear end.

I enjoyed an "E" ticket ride recently in the turbo variation at Laguna Seca, let me tell you folks, I was grinning ear-to-ear around the entire track! On my bucket list to own, screw the TESLA....

So far, I like pretty much everything about the car! Need to see one in person and drive it to be sure, but from the amazing dash and technology, fantastic new rear-end, 911 lines, and performance beating most 911s... this is a hell of a car!

Ugly as sin still, just not as ugly. But performs like a champ.
If you care mostly about performance in a luxo-barge, and care far, far less about styling, this is a contender.

The Big Wheels look nicer.
But this isn't a Porsche to me.
Get a Macan instead of this.

I am torn. Drove a first gen 4S loaner. It was nice. Peppy & sporty given its size and purpose. Would be great for long road trips IMO. Hopefully, release of facelift will cause faster depreciation of first gen Panny to the point where I could see picking one up for cheap for road trips. Otherwise, I'm happy with my 997.2S...T

Was never a fan of this car, its starting to look better though.
If you need something to pull tree stumps with or go from 100 to 0 in mere seconds with its 16.5in front rotors... this is the car.

My brother and I bought our mom one a couple of years back. I get to drive it every now and again. I/we absolutely love it. It really shrinks down around you when you get on it. Such a strong, purposeful design. The very best four-door sedan ever made, IMO. The original design is much cleaner and less fussy than this new one. The shut lines, especially around the rear doors, the bumper seam, and the large hatch, are artfully executed:
Very German industrial design. Love that upswept rear window line; makes the cabin airy and bright in the back. And from the rear seat, the original's one larger side lite gives a likely much nicer outward view, compared to the two small ones on the new car.
The new design, IMO, really makes things needlessly complicated. It's detailed like an American car. (Honestly, if it didn't say "Porsche" on the back, one could mistakingly think Buick stepped up their styling game.)
They added another small side lite, now mounted into the C pillars. It just looks way too busy with the main rear window + small side lite + small side lite. And the side strake/vent looks like it was shrunk down just to be different. Change for the sake of change. It loses the elegant deep sweep of the original's.
I'm sure it's going to be a great car, but it looks like it was designed-by-committee. It's simply not a cohesive clean-sheet bespoke design, like the original was. Overall, a pretty nice looking car, and I'd still take one over any other large sedan, but I strongly prefer the confident original design.
