Steering wheel vibration finally fixed with new rotors!
Hi all,
For the past year, I've been getting intermittent steering wheel vibration at 60 mph+ on my 997.2 C2S. At first, I didn't know if this was being caused by my recently powder coated wheels. But after realizing the vibration was worse when the car was still cold, I began to suspect the brake rotors. My front rotors had 64k miles on them and were the original ones on the car. I suspect the pads were never changed either. The rotors had a nice lip on the edge and the wear indicator were almost completely gone.
Well, this weekend, I put in a new set of Sebro rotors and Textar pads. This seemed to do the trick. The pads I pulled out had "made in Spain" stamped on them, so I'm guessing these are the original pads. I guess it's a good thing that the original pads and rotors lasted 64k miles. The original owner must not have driven very aggressively.
Installation of the new rotors and pads was straight forward. However, I did end up snapping one of the 10mm bolt that holds the brake line bracket in place. After breaking a drill bit and bolt extractor trying to remove the broken bolt, I gave up. I have a solid carbide drill bit on the way. Hopefully, I'll be able to clear the hole and re-tap it.
Anyway, I'll post some photos of the old rotors later.
Cheers!

2009 C2S 100K miles
Interesting. At 70K miles I too was getting pulsing so I replaced the front rotors and pads which did the trick. What annoyed me was there was still meat on the pads and the rotors were just a tiny bit thicker than replacement spec.
This pulsing should not have happened.
I drive the crap out of my car so I don't know why this occurred.
Peace,

My CLS550 has a wheel shimmy and an annoying squeal when lightly braking. It also only has 22k miles on it so I definitely have meat on the pads and thickness on the rotors. Like you, I think the problem is front pads and rotors not being true. It's really annoying and I am going to get around to changing them out in the next few months. I've tried to re-bed the pads by doing several 60-0 hard stops in a row but the problem persists.
Not sure what I did to cause this issue but I'm bummed to have spend the $$$ to fix this issue. Other than that the car is great and I feel like Ray Donovan when I'm behind the wheel.
