Seeking Input Prior to Posting C2S For Sale
Guys,
I am seeking input from the RL community about how best to post my 2009 997.2 C2S for sale. I’ve purchased two cars through RL – one a pretty much straight up stock car with minimal mods and the other a pretty heavily modified track car, but I’ve never offered one for sale on RL. I just found and purchased a relatively inexpensive '12 GTS and now have to sell my 09.
The situation with my C2S is between the two examples cited above – it has a number of track – oriented modifications and has multiple track days on her but I drive it around town, out to dinner, on road trips across the state and to / from track events and it is perfectly comfortable in that mode. My wife loves driving it (except for the GT2 seats) but she misses the MTs that the 996 and 997.1 GT3 had. It is also a pretty decent HPDE car.
Based on the many, many hours I’ve spent looking at the Vehicle Marketplace over the years, I feel that putting it back to stock (or as close as possible) will result in a larger potential market for it. There are significant cost and time factors involved in doing this. For example, I have a bolt in roll bar that necessitated cutting the carpet in four spots. Taking the bar out will leave four holes. Replacement carpet from Porsche looks to be over $900. Ouch! So my question to the group is, would you:
A. Initially post it as it is, recognizing doing so limits the number of potential buyers?
B. Bite the bullet and spend the time and money getting her as close to stock prior to listing on RL?
C. Do A., give it some time and if no one bites, do B?
Any and all input will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike

When I sold my 993 I ended up doing C. I could not get any bites with the roll bar, harnesses and Recaro seats in it. It seems like the universe of people that really track their car is pretty small. Which means the amount of people willing to put up with some of the compromises on the street of living with the things that make it a better track car are even smaller.
Good luck!

From experience, I'd suggest going back to as close to stock as possible if you want to sell it quickly. As you both you and ColoradoMark said, the market for people looking for a modified vehicle is pretty small -- especially if it isn't from a place like RUF or Sharkwerks, or .

C. It's all timing, the amount of buyers who wants a modified car is very small. If you post at the right time, that person might come along and buy it. If you don't have time or patience. I go straight to B.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I had planned to keep her longer and possibly strip it down to a dedicated track car over the next couple years. I've spent a lot on proactively replacing parts over the past year with that plan in mind but then I saw this GTS and well, you know how that goes! Time to start searching the Parts Market place for black carpet.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Can you post as-is but state in your ad that for some price delta and a serious buyer you'd be willing to return to stock? Maybe you get a buyer that wants some, but not all, of your mods, which might turn out well for you... Just a thought.

Crazy car people attract, crazy car people.
You bought from RL, good chance you'll find a buyer too, on RL.
No harm, time or cost, listing it as is in the RL classifieds.
If it does not sell, then return it to stock.
It will defiantly appeal to a larger purchasing pool, as stock.
As a Canadian, dollar negates my purchase power.
As another thread, we are all window shoppers. Post up some pics, and details.
As the north thaws out, an automotive hibernating boys dreams turn to shinny new hopes.

List of mods and preventive parts replacements
It took a lot longer than I thought but this is a pretty complete list:
Breathing:
BMC air filters
IPD Competition plenum (82mm throttle body standard equipment)
AWE Tuning 997.2 Performance Mufflers
SharkWerks 997.2 Center Exhaust Bypass
Suspension:
997.1 GT3 Adjustable sway bars
Tarett Adjustable drop links
997.1 GT3 Coilovers inc. the parts needed to work with DSC Controller:
- Bilstein front upper spring adaptors
- JRZ front shock body sleeves
- Porsche PASM front extension cables
- DSC controller not included – its going in the new car
Have OEM PASM Dampers
Exterior:
FVD 997-2 Front Chin Spoiler – newly installed in March 2016
Getty Design 997.2 GT3 rear deck and wing. Not included – going on new car.
Left, center and right front radiator grills powder coated black
GT3 front fender liner & brake ducts
Wheels – 19” Carrera Sports or 19” Champion RS98 Forged or 19” OZ Ultraleggera HLT (black)
Car currently has relatively new Wevo motor mounts and a Function First (stiff version) transmission mount insert. My current thought is to take them for the GTS and replace them with the mounts from the 2012 GTS, which has 23k road miles on it. I could leave the mounts and buy new for GTS.
Interior:
RSS Roll bar
Sub bar
Schroth 6 point harness
Seats – I have the stock Sport Seats which will go with the car; car currently has Perlon GT2 Carbon Fiber seats installed. I also have a set of Sparco EVO IIs with sliders and associated hardware. Haven’t decided between GT2 or Sparco to keep for the new car.
Steering wheel shift buttons rewired in 2010 by Champion Motorsport such that front buttons have no effect. Pull on right side back button to upshift; pull on left side back button to downshift. Just like having paddles w/out the paddles!
Recent OEM Part Replacements:
Ignition coils PCNA Part # 9A1.602.104.06 – 11/2015

just curious, how does your replacement GTS compared in handling/performance? The mods on your C2S are really nice, I think you might have some luck on RL/6sp selling it modded because the people here can appreciate your selections.

Man. Those are some nice parts. You could make a lot more parting it out.
Maybe sell the things that are easy and keep the hard to remove stuff in the car?
Either way... If you're selling the RS98's... I'm interested.

Thanks. I have to get the RS98s and a set of RG5s I have from the old 996 refinished before they can be put on a car or sold. The garage full of parts from previous P-cars is one of the biggest reasons I want to list the C2S as close to as - is condition at an aggressive price so as to avoid having to part it out over time. Rather take less in one sale, if possible. Thanks again.
