Bonus FWIW: owned a 2010 Cayman S PDK prior to my C4S. It's a fantastic car, but it's no 911. I personally wouldn't consider a Cayman if a 911 is within reach.

I'm not considering cayman. The car I was talking about is 2010 s with CPO. The reason I'm considering the dealer is because of financing. I think getting a car from private seller is easy if I was paying cash. I'm not. I can only do 50 percent. I don't think I can get a unsecured loan for 30 grand

Getting a loan for a private sale is simple. Go to your bank or shop around online for the best rate and just get pre-approved. They'll give you a blank check that you can sign over to the car owner. Don't be worried about private sales. It's you best bet to get a really good deal. IMO

This is the best way to go plus it opens up many more buying options.

Financing and CPO issues aside and assuming that you like both cars equally (is that possible?), I would purchase the newer of the two with higher miles.

I don't see any value in the difference between an older 911 with 10k miles and a newer one with 23k. In fact, I'd be worried that the 10k mile car hadn't been driven enough to work out all of the kinks and had sat enough that something might break once I started driving it a lot.

Even if the cars were the same age, there's no functional difference between cars with 10 and 23k miles. Other than the tires, nothing is going to wear out in that distance. But a seller will sure want to charge you a pretty premium for those undriven miles. To me, it's not worth it.

Agree. That's why I decided to go with a newer model. I'm just waiting on a final figure price for 2010 carrera s that's the one with cpo. The second contender is 2011 carrera. Both pdk. 2010 is black on black and 2011 is seal grey on black. The 2011 has 19" wheels. Both similar miles. And almost similar original prices 57k for 2011 and 59k for 2010. The dealership that has 2010 is supposed to get back to me tomorrow. If they dont or the price is not right I'm gonna go with 2011. I think I can get it down to 55 or even 54..

the 2010 carrera S has 18" wheels? I thought the S came standard with 19" in 2010. Aftermarket smaller wheels would seem strange - unless they are winter wheels. Hmm.

My bad. 2010 has 19 also, like 2011. 2011 is not an S

If you are pulling all the stop to buy a car, you should question yourself if you should get the car at all. You may be able to get a 911 for $50k but you are still servicing a $100k car. Insurance is also higher.

Majority of Porsche owners love their cars in part because it's their joy rides as in second or third cars. They take it out when they are in a good mood. When it breaks they don't have to deal with a stress of getting it fix ASAP. The fact that they are mostly wealthy makes a huge different in stress level when raking with service bill.

Think twice, don't over extend. Price will only get better with time and your saving account will only getting fatter.

Not overextending. I already have 2 other cars, so it's not gonna be my only transportation. I want to get a 911 as my gift to myself lol. And trust me I can afford it

The 2005 is WAY overpriced. Should be closer to 40 than 50k. With that budget I would get a 997.2S 6MT

Great. I saw the part that you are talking about getting a loan and I took it as a sign of over extending. Good to know that my assumption is wrong.

When looking at cars, pay attention to tire age, not just thread depth. Many low millage cars need tire replacements due to the 6 year recommendation.

That 997.2 C4S PDK launch car is on my future watch list. I recommend you buy it.

I've got a launch 05 997S loaded with rare goodies - it's such a nice package and I think this is part of why i've never really wanted to sell it.

Those carbon seats are nuts though - love it.

More info. I just got a 2005 C2S with only 20K on it and with a 3rd party warranty until end of 2019 for just under 40k. I didn't want a 2005 due to IMS issue, but the really long warranty is what pushed me over the edge to go through with it. I am saving my pennies so by the time the warranty runs out, I will get the IMS solution and new clutch for around $3k and have an IMS that is built like a tank and much better than the ones even in the 2006-08.

If the car doesn't come with a warranty, the ONLY way I would feel safe buying a 2005 is if you picked it up and immediately had an IMS done and built that $3k into the budget of the purchase, no matter how many miles. To me the $10K+ repair of a failure, isn't worth the risk. So I would either get it done right away and factor that into your offer or get a 2006+
