Bear mountain, ny spring fun
Sharing an event that I've created via facebook, it's public so even if you do not have Facebook you'll still be able to view it, but here are the basics:
Start point: park and ride near exit 5 on the palisades parkway, accessible from both north and southbound lanes.
May 1st
They do have coffee, snacks, and gas. I suggest getting gas earlier than there due to increased prices.
The two stop points are
1st: Perkins memorial tower and
2nd: marina at Cornwall on the Hudson
The ending point is a winery in Warwick. The winery serves beer, wine, soda, water and a good selection of food. There is no parking cost at the location.
Meet time is 8am, it's usually done by 2pm, I shoot to be at the winery by 1130/12. You do not need to do the entire day, you can simply meet at one of the stops or the winery or start and depart before the end.
Any questions feel free to ask or text/call me at 908 3o4 376nine

If winter doesn't want to let go by may I'm going to spend the rest of my summer in the south, and I enjoy my fair share of winter, it takes a lot for me to give up on it.
There's a gentleman in the 924/44 section heading up from exit 109 on the gsp, I'm sure you and he could meet up with a couple I know coming from that area and caravan to the start

Saturday afternoon I had a solo run to Bear Mountain. It was my first run up to Bear Mountain. My friend who has been on plenty of runs up Bear Mountain recommended after the traffic circle at the end of 9W to take the first right, pay the toll, go over the bridge, hang right and enjoy.
Instead I followed my GPS to Perkins Memorial Tower since I read about it from this thread. This was different than the route recommended by my friend. After taking the first right after the 9W traffic circle (signs pointed to Bear Mountain), I took another right which eventually led me to the the Perkins Memorial Tower. There were plenty of slow moving cars heading to the Tower and also many people walking towards the top, prior to reaching the tower.
On my way down I had the option of Exit or Scenic View. I figured the scenic view was another way to exit with a nice view. Turned out to be wrong. It was a beaten up road filled with small rocks that leads to a circle to go back up. So just in case you're thinking about taking the scenic view, don't do it. Once I made it back to the exit, I went down the hill and eventually made it to a stop sign. I had two options, a left or a sharp right. Took the sharp right and it basically took me directly back to the Palisades Parkway.
The Perkins Memorial Tower was a great stop and took some nice pictures, but it wasn't the driving experience I wanted. I have to say next time I will take the route my friend recommended in hope for a great driving experience.
Edit: Did not want to discourage more people from doing the Bear Mountain run. A suggestion would be to pay the toll, go over the bridge, hang right, and enjoy that ride. Then get back to the traffic circle and go up to the Perkins Memorial Tower to enjoy that wonderful view.
