So I am 2 months into 997 ownership. Bought a CPO 2009 with 5K miles. Figured I knew everything - and could not spend an extra penny for a while. Tires looked good, brakes looked good, etc.
2500 miles later rears looked a little worn so I gave a close look. Few small cracks in the treads, but then I looked at the manufacture date. Car still has the original Yokohamas that came on the car. I assumed since they were Yokohamas (who at the time I did not know were OEM Porsche tires) that were recently put on for the sale of the car. Turns out Carrera 4's come with Yokohamas and mine were made in 2008.
New set of conti DWS06's ordered up.

Yeah. They are N1. I did not even know Yokohama made N rated tires. But after research found out they were stock on the Carrera 4 and Targa 4 only. Not the 4S or targa 4S and not the carrera or the carrera S. And only in 18 inch size.

If it's a CPO car I would have expected the tires to have been checked by the dealer. Can anyone confirm what the tire requirements are for the car to be CPO by Porsche? Age? Tread depth? N-spec?
If something was missed during the CPO process you can go back to the dealer and work with them to get it fixed. I'm just not certain if tire age is one of the checklist items for CPO.

They were N spec with good tread depth. Guess I can call in the morning and see if age matters. On the CPO check list they gave me the tires passed. I guess I could ride it out, but not sure I want to run on 8 year old tires. I could get another few thousand miles out of the rears and probably another 10K out of the fronts.

Shouldn't the CPO have replaced old tires as part of CPO'ing the car? Any way to get Porsche to pay for new tires?
Cant hurt to ask right?

As far as I know and have been told - Tires must be less then 3 years old from date stamp to qualify for CPO, regardless of tread depth.
Heard that with my Porsche and a 2012 certified Lambo I just picked up as well. I don't know if that's official but I've heard this from a Porsche and Lamborghini dealership.

I can't believe they CPO'd 8 year old tires. Unacceptable.

I agree. 8 year old tires shouldn't pass CPO.
My 2009 C4S was a CPO as well, but they never gave me the CPO paperwork, so I don't know what the passing criteria was. The tires (PZero) were dated 2010 and I bought the car in 2015, so my tires were 5 years old at CPO. They lasted me only 3,800 miles & 8 months after I bought the car...my rear left tire shredded at that time & I noticed cracks in all 4, so I replaced the entire set for my safety. I complained to the dealer that I purchased from and asked to get a copy of my CPO paperwork. They said it was in the paper archives and would take a while to dig up. After asking a few times with no result, I gave up and never got it.
Apparently, the CPO criteria for tires must be really low, which is disappointing.
