Default Targa 4S Change-up

I have an '08 Targa 4S. I have a silly grin on my face every time I walk up to it. I bought it 2 years ago and am now wondering why I waited so long. As I looked at it, I was always looking at things to do to make subtle changes. I decided to change the brushed metal strip above the doors and side windows to black. I found gloss black vinyl 3 inches wide and 30 feet long. Less than $30 shipped. It took me about an hour and a half to do one side. I did a TERRIBLE job. I had never done vinyl before and it was harder than I would have imagined--especially the curve at the front of the door. Lesson learned-- hire a professional.

All-in-all I LOVE IT. I didn't mind the metal look, but this is much more subtle. I think it is really good with my Atlas Grey. I wonder what others could do (carbon (played out IMO), white, matte, or just go crazy with any color).

Let me know what you think.

FYI--yes only one side or still done; yes, it still has air bubbles; yes, I am going to have it done professionally--both sides. I did a bad job even before I had the IPA.

I think it work best with a heat gun so you don't get the bubbles or wrinkles

Looks cool. Others on here have plastidipped the strip with success - I'm thinking about doing that.

Looks good.

I did mine with plastidip a few months ago, and it still looks good. I would think that vinyl will last longer, but so far, I've been pleased with the longevity of the plastidip.

There was a poster recently that did a carbon fiber hydrographic print on some interior panels. That might look cool.

I also tried the Plastdip. I rushed it and screwed it up removing the tape. I may have to try it again.

Looks much better. Don't like the chrome on any sports car. Not sure why we are seeing it more on the 991

I never liked the look of the silver strip on Targas. The black looks much better!

Having worked with this stuff, it is really easy. Cut lengthwise a little larger than the trim, get hair dryer and do a little at a time. That surface is much easier than many interior pieces I have done. It should be hard but with the width you are using and not heating, it is less pliable which leads to the bubbles

Thanks for all the input and advice.

In your opinions, do you think Plastidip or vinyl is better? Longer lasting?

To tell you the truth, I am fine with paying a few $ to have it done.

I like it, and it looks good from 10+ feet away, I wouldn't mind little imperfections in the vinyl given that its a cheap and easily reversible mod.

I believe that vinyl will be more durable than plastidip, but I may be wrong. Either way it looks good.
