Default Official hello and greetings from a new 997 owner

After a ten year break of 911 ownership im back in the fold. Looked at a couple of 991's but was a little turned off by the bigger size, price tag and an impending drop in value. End of the day, the 997 was the perfect choice. I found a 08 C4S local to me in my desired color combo and mechanical history.

Long day of getting her home etc so sorry for the crappy light picture. The oil stains on the driveway are olives from the trees.

welcome back - lovely clean 997. That's an eclectic collection you have there with the long wheelbase(?) Jag and Testarossa. hmmm…. do I detect a colour theme?

Today is detail day and front brakes. The car has 47k miles but passed a PPI with flying colors sans front brakes and rear tires. The interior needs a good cleaning as I rushed the seller before they put it back on the internet. They listed it with a one line description and a picture taken with a potato. Bad for them but good for me.

What a great car. You can really feel the evolution in power and overall driver experience. Coming from an SC, 964's and a 996, this is the perfect 911 in my opinion. Lots of tactile feed back, great power and just enough luxury to make the wife happy.

The Jag is the wifes. My Daughter has a Passat and my DD is a Range Rover.....all in white with tan interiors. What can I say, we are a white car family.

And the Testarossa is part of your retirement fund! Seriously, hold on to that one. Congrats on the C4S.

Seriously. There is a Testarossa in your garage. Why are we talking about anything else. A WHITE Testarossa. For a Miami Vice -era kid, that is something. (And maybe I just miss my Ferrari a little too much).

Oh, and absolutely, welcome back to 911. GREAT cars, and I LOVE my C4S. Drive in good health (and maybe don't park under the olives).

Whew.....Time for a margarita.......in a Big Gulp Cup. Ill put up some detail shots tomorrow with some good light.

-Thank you to the folks who posted the formula for Savannah Beige. I was at Home Depot first thin in the AM getting a sample jar for $3.98. There were a couple little paint flakes by the headlight ring and by the ashtray. The match is spot on. So that was a quick project.

-Cleaned all the leather and put on proper conditioner. It was clean....sort of, but now its spotless. Thankfully there arent any gouges or stains. I will need to pick up some dye for the handbrake. It has signs of wear around the release button.

-Front brake job.? What a let down......hahah. 30 minutes and it was done including new sensors. My long time friend (Porsche Factory Mechanic) gave me a 'DIY' kit last night as a welcome back gift. Bedded in the brakes, good grab no squeal.

-Popped off the inner door panel to confirm that the inner door handle spring thingy was snapped. Thats tomorrows problem. Ill pick one up at my buddies dealership.

-New rear Michelin's are on the list for tomorrow along with installing the door handle retention bracket and this thing is done. No more defects.

I should have closed the garage door but yea, the Miami Vice Testarossa is my obsession. Oh my....its a beast. The ultimate GT for this kid. I was a child of the 80's and the white TR was THE car to own....still is. This is my second white TR. The first one had a black interior so no Bueno. Kept loosing my wallet, pager and Bren Ten in a sea of black leather. The feeling and sound from 5 liters of Italian HP behind your head is amazing. The 997 will spank it, lets get on the table from the start. One is a 25 year old high priced Italian escort, the 997 is a track star. She moans to get out of bed.

But cars are like women: Some like blondes, some like red heads, some like brunettes........ Some luck out and get the Neapolitan! The TR is simple, brutal, uncomplicated.....like a good old fashioned High School Girlfriend. Once sorted, the TR is very reliable. Dont let the internet scare you. The flat 12 is very detuned and well made. It has its gremlins just like some 911's. The differential has been known to grenade and the fuse panel can go Chernobyl. So you upgrade the Diff and have the Fuse Box reworked to take the high draw items off of it and on their own panel.

I take my TR up to XXX MPH and it keeps sucking further and further to the ground. The entire undercarriage has sheet metal panels like a NASCAR unit. Shifting is slow with a metallic click due to the gate. Its all part of the charm.

Someone said retirement fund. Boy dont you know it. I really intended to flog this little Phillie, but the investment market said No! She now sits with 14,400 miles and a loving caretaker giving her belts a work out once a week with a monthly trip around the neighborhood. God forbid I get a rock chip.....hahaha.

Ill take some proper pictures tomorrow.

Were white gauges standard? If so, Im happy with them....saved me some $$. Another 80's throw back.

Absolutely fantastic. Good story and thanks for the write up. And quite possibly one of my favorite pictures on this entire board.

Enjoy your cars in good health, sir.
