Default Time to charge battery

I had a dead battery and jumped the car successfully. I ran a test on the battery and it was completely dead. The battery is less than a year old.

How long do you think this should take to charge? I want to take the car out again, but I want to make sure that the battery doesn't go flat again while I'm out.

I connected a 30A charger to it.

Was the car not driven for weeks ?
Seems you have the right kind of charger for a completely flat battery.
Check that the battery voltage is around 12.5 Volts after about an hour off charge and when the engine is running it is above 13.5 Volts.
Use a battery maintainer if not using car for more than a week, standard lead acid batteries don't like deep discharge unless they are designed for that purpose.

What kind of battery? The Porsche Moll seems to be DOA once it is completely discharged...or will soon be.

The car wasn't driven for maybe 2 months. It's a Carquest battery.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna take it out in a little bit.

You should get a battery tender like Ctek 3300.

I need a tender, you are absolutely right. We all work so hard to be able to afford these cars, I have to remember to take some time and enjoy it.

A month tops is about as long as I dare leave the car without having it plugged into a trickle charger.
New or not, your battery life has probably been compromised now with the complete discharge.

You are correct I went to my garage after having it charge for like 5-6 hours and it still wasn't enough. Rather than risk it I just put a new battery in. Buying a tender today. Thanks guys.

I bought one of those Porsche labeled chargers about $120.00. Works great and the car is always charged up and ready.

A completely discharged lead cell battery is toast. I have learned that several times in my own life. I use a tender if my car is not going to be driven for a week.

just happens,

all the best.....

I believe the Porsche chargers are just re-labeled CTEK's, I'm a CTEK dealer if anybody is interested in buying one.

I don't have them on the website so just contact me.

First, let me say I agree. But....you can attempt a recharge by placing another good battery in parallel with the dead one to get it to start taking a charge. Sometimes this will bring back a totally dead battery because the charger won't see a load in the dead battery by itself and won't charge it.

30A? That is a heavy charge. Great for getting the battery charged up quickly, but it is tough on it. The slower the charge the better. As I understand. If you have the option on your charger, dial it back to 2 or 5 amps. If it is a Carquest battery? take it back and get the to test it on their big expensive tester. It maybe toast. With your bill of sale, they just may replace it. I would try and not mention that your car was not driven for a period of time.
X2 on the battery tender, ie. CTEC or Porsche tender. Something, if your not excising your steed.
Funny. I just replaced my wife's battery on Saturday on her X5. With the aid of the 12 year old, 19 minute job. From tool selection, to tool put away. Dealer wanted $472? Walmart $139. non Black Forest design.
