If you're primarily using it on the street with young kids 997GTS prolly the best deal right now. However, if you're looking for comfort, quiet, beautiful curves and more power look into 991Targa GTS. Personally the best bang for the money as of now is 997GTS

Side note... 991 Targa GTS MSRP ($133k) is more than 991 GT3 ($130k). I understand why but that just seems backwards to me.
My 997.2 GTS has been a daily driver for 2+ years...still puts a grin on my face every time out. With the Aerokit, 6-speed and GT2 seats, a 7.2 GTS is more more visceral IMO than any 991 save a GT3. With cost factored into the equation, the GTS is tough to beat.
Many thanks to all for the replies. Over lunch I drove a 2011 GTS PDK and loved it; the sound, the driving dynamics, the brakes, the transmission, etc. I also drove a GT3 yesterday. Simply awesome, but too much of a compromise for my current state in life.
As much as I like the PDK, I think a manual is what I'm really after.
I run CCW C14s 9x18 in front and 12x18 in back on track. 18" wheels allow more tire options and the tires are also cheaper. 18" is also good size for trade off between unsprung mass and sidewall thinkness/stiffness which makes them a good street car track wheel size for our 997s.
FYI correct sizing for the above wheels on a WB 997 like the GTS would be as follows:
18x9 ET 48-51 - ~7" backspacing
18x12 ET 47-51 - ~8.5" backspacing
Tire sizes for those wheels needed to maintain the same rolling diameter as OEM 19"s are as follows:
245/40/18 - Fronts
305/35/18 - Rears
Shoutouts: RL user 'mdrums' tracked his GTS with a similar setup and has been a fantastic resource. I owe that guy a few beers. RL user 'mxp' sold me the wheels/tires and CCW sales dept helped me verify application and fitment.
Awesome! Great info, thanks! I'll keep you posted as i get into the next car.

Did you drive the one at Momentum Porsche? I almost went there today as well. Will make it out there tomorrow.
Get the PDK and you'll have a free hand for daddy duties.
Correct me here but noob says a 997.2CarreraS should be way better then an '06CaymanS quite handily anyway...right?so 'tis to consider is the 30HP etc worth $30K versus the correctly optioned C2?
But if your GT3 vs GTS...becasue back seat
Just pointing out the obvious. Current GTS versus GT3 - same base price and GTS goes up with leather, better stereo, AWD etc etc. For new buyers wanting a new car.
Price for 997 GTS versus GT3? GTS is a lot lower.
I have serious concerns about price stability of the GTS. Specifically the 997 GTS are surprisingly cheap. I think they might not be as attractive to casual buyers with the alcatana, limited wheel choice etc. and people just buy a c2s or c4s.
Now, the question is whether $73k - 85k for a 2009-2010 GTS is something you consider having dropped to where you like to buy it or whether you are afraid that it continues to lose value at a high rate.
