Searching for the best 997.1/2 Under $45k
Hello,
Long time lurker looking to pull the trigger on a 911.
I am looking for a 2006+ Carrera S, Black exterior/interior, manual trans, sport chrono, sport steering wheel, nav, heater seats, 19" sport design wheels.
Looking to stay under $40k but may push to $45k.
This is the best example I have been able to find that seems to have the right balance options I want, clean title, mileage, and price. The Porsche dealer selling it sent me a recent maintenance receipt that shows both rear brake pads/rotors were replaced, oil changed, rear seats was loose/seat belt cover replaced. The last piece makes me wonder if the previous owner had installed aftermarket seats for a track day? They don't seem interested in letting me do a PPI outside the dealer.
Anyone know of another similar variant that might be better?

I might even have been inclined to buy from them w/o a PPI but the refusal (ok, you didn't phrase it that way but that's how I take it at this point) to allow an outside PPI would raise a big red flag for me.
edit to add: the seat things is weird. I'd definitely keep looking. There are plenty of cars out there. And I'm not sure why you'd want sport chrono with a manual transmission: it's just a stopwatch in that config.

I bought my first Porsche from them years ago and they were really good to deal with but that was 15+ yrs ago. I would think they would allow an independent to do a PPI if you told them you were serious about buying. I am about 25 min away and could take a look at it for you if you get to that point. Let me know.

I have Sport Chromo on my manual and love it. Besides the hideous Wart on the dash, it sharpens up throttle response for Heel / Toe downshifts and puts PSM in a less intrusive mode. Not quite as fun as turning it off at the rack but a nice in between spot when at a new track or one with lots of scary walls like Sonoma. If you find a car w/o it you can have the sport button added for about $1500 w/o the wart.

you should really look at this car. A ton of great upgrades and mods and looks to be in great shape.

Thanks for the info, the one on the forum looks like a nicely modified variant!

It might mean pushing your budget into the $45-50k realm, but remember you're not far from the 997.2 price range, especially if you don't mind a car that has done 40k or more miles. There are some benefits with the newer engine and newer PCM that may or may not be important to you. Also a "base" 997.2 (345hp) is not too far from the "S" 997.1 (355hp) although this again is a personal choice.
If it's your first 911 and if it's not CPO, then insist on a PPI. And run from any dealer/owner that refuses the request.
Lastly - take your time. You will find the right car, they are out there so be picky. Don't be afraid to travel a little too although you probably won't need to for a Carrera class car. Good luck!
