I got bored today and decided to plasti dip my exhaust tips. I used black plasti dip with silver metalizer. At first, I was planning to paint them, but did some research. Apparently, the exhaust tips don't get hot enough to melt the plasti dip. I drove my car for about an hour yesterday and had no issues. The tips don't seem to get very hot.
Here's a pic. I think they look great and my fiancee even agreed! So far, I've had great success with plasti dip. I plasti dipped the rear bumper diffuser and Carrera S badge. It's held up great after a year.
Hmmm, I'm skeptical. Maybe not at first but over a four year period I can say that mine have managed to cook off the ceramic coating. If it does melt, if be concerned that it would ignite and catch the rear bumper on fire.
Looks good. However I would also be concerned that when you drive the car hard, the tips will get a lot hotter, and the Plasti-Dip could fail.
If it does, at least it is easy to remove and now you know what it looks like if you want a more permanent solution.
There are a few good high temp ceramic based spray paints available like VHT and Duplicolor engine enamel that are often used on exhaust tips.

Then you don't have a ceramic coating. My ceramic coated tips, that are 2 driving seasons and 23,000 miles old, look brand new. Done by CCP Coatings in Detroit.
Since we are talking about plastidip, I plastidipped my rear bumperettes black, my car is black. I think it turned out pretty good. Of course it doesn't match the paint, but it's a lot nicer then the white scratches that were there before.
