Default Locking door without arming

Need your quick help....I'm getting on a ferry shortly with the P-car and I need to know if I can lock the doors without arming it? I'm afraid the motion of the ferry will constantly set the alarm off. (Can't check the manual right now as I need to catch the ferry right about now).

On my dd BMW it was inserting the key and twist twice to the right. Thanks in advance!

Key in the door?
Never really thought about it.

Use your key...BTW, there is no motion sensor for the alarm. There's an interior sensor that detects movement inside (like waving your hand) and you can disable that by pushing the arm/lock button on the remote quickly two times.

Deactivating the passenger compartment
monitoring system for one locking
process
If a person or animal remains in the car while it is
locked, the passenger compartment monitoring
system must be switched off.
f Quickly lock car twice.
The doors are locked but can be opened from
the inside:
1. Pull inner door handle once to unlock door
lock.
2. Pull inner door handle again to open door.

Thank you for quoting the manual, jhbrennan. Also, the OP didn't mention but IIRC, the cabriolets do NOT have an interior motion sensor. Their alarms only go off if someone tries to open the door from the inside or opens the glove box, frunk or decklid while the alarm is set.

Cabs have passenger compartment monitoring but it is always switched off when top is open. Not sure if the Targa's have something similar.

Not sure if it works on a 997, but on my 996 if you lock with the key fob, watch for the lights to blink twice, immediately unlock (lights blink once), wait 20-30 seconds and the car will automatically lock itself without setting the alarm.

As JB said: Point fob, press once to lock, immediately press again. Voila locked door, sensor is inactive. I will get alarm in heavy wind so I am well versed here. And yes...ahem... It's in the manual

I'm going on a ferry and so have been reading about this. I guess I will try either key in door, or lock / unlock / leave methods and see which is a winner.

By the way.... the 996 (certainly my 2004 C4S Cab, does have a motion sensor. ... I know this because if you try to jack the car with it locked, it goes off very easily.

Wish me luck on the ferry.

You can lock with the FOB and properly set the alarm. I doubt he alarm will go off with normal ferry rolling motion.

Since I live in the Pacific Northwest, I ride ferries frequently. I have blissfully ignorant of any of these techniques, and never had a problem with my alarm going off. This includes open water from Canada to USA with rolling seas.
