Tires and rattles/resonance from cabin
Howdy all,
I've done a few searches on rattles on the 997.2 cars, and I've a 2009 C4S with 52k miles. It is pretty much rattle free until I hit rough pavement/freeways.
The car has Hankook V12Evos (which I don't really like) but the car had these installed when I bought the car because it needed new tires.
On certain surfaces, I get a resonance from the dash on both the drivers and passenger side which drives me nuts. I am going to have a friend drive the car and try and ID the source.
The question I have is, has anyone else experience with rattles/resonance differences with running different tires?
Do the OE tires (Michein PS2) which are considerably much more expensive minimize rattles, or improve the NVH? Thanks!

I get occasional rattles/noise at different times from:
Dash wart
Rear view mirror
Dial cluster
Wing mirror control
Sunroof
It got 50% worse after installing semi solid engine mounts. It's not enough to switch back to OEM!
Going from RE050A's to MPSS reduced it a little I think?

Thanks for the reply everyone . I forgot to mention that am running the fronts at 34 and the rears 37 (while the car is cold).
The tires were installed about 6k miles ago but appear to have decent thread left on them. Having said that it could also be a function of tire wear as I'm sure these are possibly past their 50% lifespan.
I will hunt around later today and see if I can resolve any of them.

No explination for the problem, but I would try 36-38 in all 4. I also think that all 911 with big wheels and tires make alot of road noise. I put sound deadening material in my car and it makes a real difference ( fro any other 911 you ride in)

Material? I'm interested in doing the same

Ronan, my experience with rattles (in non-Porsches) is that there will always be a semblance of a rattle, regardless of the road condition.
If you are experiencing a resonance, I suspect that the tires are the culprit.
Has it become more noticeable as the tread has worn?
I'm running MPSS tires and the rears have 20k with ~2k left in them. While road noise has increased during the tires lifespan, there are no rattles/resonance that is being transmitted to the body.
It looks like a road trip to the Eastern Sierra is coming together during the next couple of weeks: perhaps you can join and we can properly identify the issue?!

I keep 38 in all 4, and you can add sound deadening (many different kinds, try ebay) pull up the carpet and stick it to every surface you can access, mainly take all the back seat and carpets out and cover that whole area. Really cuts the sound by about 1/2 and quiets the interior

Of course you are free to do as you like. I post my observation here for the benefit of others who care about safety.
