Static
I upgraded my Note 2 to a Note 5 on Friday. Yesterday I modified my ProClip charging cradle for the new phone (requires a half dozen fabricated parts and some grinding, but ProClip doesn't have an option yet). Today I went for a drive.
A bit of background ... I use the cradle for charging and have the aux cable plugged in for Waze and Pandora.
The phone does a nice job of prioritizing the phone over Waze over Pandora. But the phone won't map all of these to the Bluetooth. Thus the need for the aux input, and the unfortunate loss of FM, AM, CD options.
The new phone works great and gives better sound quality. But as soon as I slide the phone far enough into the cradle to connect the charger, I get static proportional to motor speed.
I take enough long trips that I need to charge the phone enroute. During those trips I also want Waze warnings through the car speakers.
Many months ago there was a post about this, but my mobile search functions aren't helping me. One of the last entries on that post was someone talking about making an LC filter for the charger plug in. Did that happen? Did it help? Any information on component values?
Thanks in advance.

Wayne, go to Radio Shack (if they still exist?) and buy a clamp on choak for the power cable. It's basically a magnet (inductor) that will filter out a band of frequencies....they used to be $7, but if it works, viola! They usually are a two piece that snaps together.
Easy, cheap fix.....did this on the 355 years ago and probably was the least expensive fix I ever did on it!

Thanks Mike. I used to have a bunch of these at the office. Needed them to pass a TUV EMI test many years ago. Had kind of forgotten about them. Not sure if I tossed them during my last Spring cleaning or not, but we'll be driving past the office on the way home from my daughters. I'll check.
You must be about to head to the Ring. I'll bet a bunch of people would like to be you for the next week! Enjoy your birthday celebration!!!

The tray of magic magnetic ferrite beads was still in one of my engineering drawers. And being magic, placing one on the power cord took care of the static. Brilliant!!! Thank you again for the advice.

Glad you got it figured out. I was going to suggest you return the Note for an iPhone. Mine does phone, GPS and Spotify fine through bluetooth on my 997 (iSimple Tranzit-Blu HF) and wife's Merc (factory BT) without the need for any aux input, and with no static ever. All I run is a charging cord from the phone to a USB adapter in the cigarette lighter socket. I never bothered with a holder clip either, just lay the phone on the passenger seat when I'm alone, or in the dash cubby if I'm not.
I do like the stylus on the Note. I also use Waze for navigation and awareness. I also take extended rides so need the charging. The ProClip works great since it holds the phone in easy view and auto connects the charger. The aux cable plugs right in on the bottom side.
I will admit, I was tempted to convert from Android to Apple, but the stylus keeps me with the Note. This new phone is impressive. But then, so was the Note 2.
It would be complete if the applications could overlap into the Bluetooth output, but from what I can gather, the hardware still won't allow that. So aux cable it is.
Mike ... next time I see you I owe you lunch!
