Default Question about a 2007 carrera s.

I know that this issue comes up a lot. Is there any reason to shy away from a 2007 Carrera S 6spd with 32000 miles. I know that this car still has the m97 motor with the ims bearing. I have heard that they updated the bearing to a better version but have not seen any 3.8 2007 models that have had a failure. It's a local car so I'm able to drive and inspect it easily. Decent price I think. Should I get it or a 997.2 regular Carrera that has the new updated motor?

Of course before I came to the 997 I was looking at 996 turbos since it's the mezger block and pretty bulletproof.

I plan on keeping this car for a long time and want to make the most informed decision.

Thanks for any input.

I think the occurrence of IMSB failures in later 997.1 cars is quite low. It's not impossible, but it's low. I wouldn't worry about it. The reasons to get a 997.2 go beyond the IMSB in my opinion. Pick the car you want and get a good PPI.

I think the 996 turbo is an interesting choice, and they seem to have stabilized in terms of price. I'm not sure you can say the same thing for the naturally aspirated 997 cars. The 996 styling doesn't appeal to everyone, but the 996 turbo is a fantastic car. You simply have to decide what criteria are important to you as you make your purchase decision.

Picked up my 07 4S 4 years ago...18k. Got 55k on it now. No worries about the purchase of motor issues. Just mods.

I have an 06 and it's been rock solid (my second 06), even after adding an X51 kit and pushing it (just did a track day this weekend). Having said that, the common recommendation on this list is to buy the newest P car you can afford.

Thanks for that link. Interesting read. I like that Mr. Raby posted about it.

My ride is an '07 C4S ... and I have no worries about the IMS bearing issue. Three of my most trusted friend [two are Porsche salesmen ... or "Brand Ambassadors" as they are called] told me that it is not an issue for the later 997.1 cars. If you are going for a 991, then it should be for other reasons.

Is the extra dough for 997.2 worth $10k?
If your keeping the car for a long time?
Should you spend the 10k or save the 10k?
Buy the right car that you want. .1 or .2
You'll never get the right used car.
For that privilege, you'll need to order that... NEW,

You were me six months ago when a 2007 C2S with similar mileage came up for sale. After weighing all the same information as you and speaking with a couple Porsche specialists, I decided to pull the trigger. I am very happy.

In my opinion the only practical advantage that an 09 Base has over a 07 C2S is the updated PCM (assuming comparable condition and options). Once my PCM was upgraded to an aftermarket unit I was 100% happy.

Hi all! Sorry for hijacking your thread. New member here as well looking to get into a 997 soon. Narrowed it down to these 2 - 2006 S with more options versus 2007 S mostly std. Any arguments as to why I should get the 07 besides it being a year newer and fewer miles (not by much though)?

I vote the 06 since it has the turbo wheels and the sports software.

I vote the rennlist car first due to lower miles, good options, and appears to be in great condition.

Then the 06 with better options

Then the 07.

No affiliation, good luck!

My thoughts exactly. I literally just responded to an email from eflight to work out a deal but no go. Anyone here want a 2011 Audi Q5 with ~40k miles so I can buy that car? 😏
