Default Odometer failure

Hey guys, I usually hang out on the 993 forum but am looking for a little advice from y'all. I searched but didn't have much luck, got a bunch of hits for "odometer". My brother is looking at this car, http://www.copart.com/us/Lot/2911606...chId=286343821. Yes, he knows it is a salvage title car. The mileage is listed as "Not Actual", He is wondering what would cause the odometer to stop working besides tampering? Is there a known issue with the odometers on 997's?

Thanks
Dave

I have never heard about any issues with 997 odometers.

Just guessing. Since this is a salvage title, perhaps it was a flood car and the cluster along with a lot of the electronics were replaced. The new cluster would show mileage from the donor car.

That's my guess, or they are just putting every disclaimer possible since they don't have a way to verify actual mileage. I have never heard of odo issues in 997s.

But if it is a flood car, I would stay away, too many electrical things going on between the engine, PCM, PDK, targa top, etc.

We have talked about most of our concerns, he is definitely going into this with his eyes open. He knows it is a risk but that is kind of how he operates. Will pass along all responses.

Thanks again

I Believe the cluster will have to be recoded in order to work and the engine hours would show on the Porsche computer.
