Does not having a real spare tire impact on how and when you use your 997?

The spare only fits on the front. Then you take your front wheel and put it on the rear. Obviously, if you have a flat on the front you just mount the spare on the front.

I believe what you're looking for, John, is a Pontiac Aztek.
* Loads of room for spare tires.
* Pop-out tent in case of sudden nap requirements or if the Viagra kicks in before you make it all the way home from a romantic trip to Hometown Buffet.
* Small-diameter tires - none of those "ridiculous" 19's and 20's here!
* Comfortable ride.
* A quality vehicle from a name you can trust.

I think it's fine to worry about these things. And to try and profit from the experience of others on RL. And tob use that to prepare add best we can. Especially here in the West & Southwest. Being stranded for 3 days in NM/west Texas because my wife's Benz had issues & the nearest dealer was ~ 300 miles away was a major hassle. If we'd been in a Ford F-150, we'd have been on our way in an hour or two. On the other hand, it was gratifying that even in the middle of Nowheres-ville NM with a cell phone, a little time, insurance, roadside assistance, a bit of moolah, and the help of some nice strangers, the wife & I were able to cope with that, which was probably the worst case scenario in many years of driving across this great land of ours. Life's too short, we own great cars, get out there on the road...T

I think the spare tire issue - if you live in a rural area with no cell phone coverage and do not have roadside assistance - is legitimate.
If you live in a populated area, keep a phone with you, and have AAA or Porsche roadside assistance, this is much ado about nothing. I'm certain more time has been spent on this thread than John Ireland will ever spend dealing with a flat on his 997.

Getting little Johnny up and running if you know what I mean nudge nudge wink wink is probably enough of a marathon already.

Your opinion of me adds nothing to the point of the thread. Next time you feel like opening your mouth be sure you're wearing knee pads.
