Satellite Radio Antenna under cowl?
I have read that a number of people have installed the aftermarket Xm/Sirius antennas under the plastic windshield cowl which my stereo shop did as well.
Problem is my that reception sucks and the music or Stern cuts out every minute or so. Is there a specific place in the cowl that seems to work best?
BTW, my car is a cab.

I had mine installed on the metal front bumper, concealed underneath the bumper cover. It worked perfectly.

I haven't installed sat radio in a p-car, but do have experience in other vehicles. You probably already know that satellite radio reception is affected by tall obstacles nearby (buildings, tunnels, mountains, trees, ...). So I'll assume you have intermittent issues while in a clear wide open area.
The best position for the antenna is with a clear view of the southern sky, with no metal obstructions. Under the exterior plastic windshield cowl works well if tucked high under, near the glass, away from the metal hood. On the interior front dash (ugly) or rear shelf (coupe/targa) also works provided the windows & window tint do not block the signal. Behind the rear view mirror works too, just not as well.
The factory GPS antenna is under the cowl in location 'H' below. An aftermarket satellite radio antenna in the same spot should work too.

I had mine installed underneath the cowl and the reception was bad to the point it was almost unusable. I ended up moving the antenna to the outside of the cowl to get it to work as no location I moved it to underneath made any difference,
It's not where I wanted to put it but at least it works and I don't real notice it anymore

I had it under my cowl in my 2000 Boxster and it worked very well for 12 years.... See pic...
Note the installer built an "s" bracket to push the antennae up and against the cowl.

I installed the NAV-TV Sirius system that integrated with the Bose system flawlessly. The antenna was installed under the cowl and was terrible.....lots of dropouts every 5-10 seconds, so unusable. It was moved to the very lower left on the front windshield and worked great and still works great today, over a year later. Don't really notice the bump on the windshield so I'm OK with it.

it gets better reception if its out in the open, thats why ever mfg puts them on the roof or trunk. But if you can get good reception elsewhere, do it. You will notice drop outs more frequently and weakness in certain directions

I experimented with quite a few Sirius XM antenna locations -- see my results in https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ation-s-2.html.

Sat radio. I have GPS in my cabriolet, but not satellite radio. I have no "hump".
