Default New Key Questions

I read all the posts I can find on new keys... so is this a good plan?

1. Purchase key head and key blank from Suncoast. Done-- $200. See pic.
2. Should I bring key blank to locksmith or have dealer to cut it? I'm sure locksmith is cheaper, but is there high risk that it won't work??
3. Bring key head to dealer for programming... about how much should this cost? I assume that an Indie shop can't program, so there's no choice here, correct?

Any advice/experiences appreciated! Thanks.

If cutting the blade is included in the one hour of dealership labor that it takes to program the fob, then it might be wise to have them go ahead and do it, that way, they are responsible for making it work. However, some dealerships will program the fob gratis and my local locksmith quoted me $30 to cut the Porsche blade- so that would be best case scenario. I guess you should make a call to your dealership and ask them exactly how they will charge, if at all.

Most dealerships charge 1 hour of labor.

My local P dealer cut and programmed the key for less than 1 hour labor. I think I paid around $60.

Thanks guys. I will call my local P dealer and see whether he cuts keys and how much he charges, and go from there.

You also have to drive the car there to get it programmed, so make sure you don't lose your last key !!!!
