Default careless washing + sponge with "snaggability" = broken rear lid emblem

DOH!

I have what I thought was a great wash sponge that is a combination of microfiber and a bit firmer surface to remove bugs. However, it has a couple of loose threads that have created loops...and through my own carelessness I broke off the bottom of the "g" in Targa.

Any ideas on how to reattach? Would prefer that versus putting on a new entire emblem.

A new emblem is no big deal. You can remove the old one with dental floss and then some bug and tar remover (or a cleaner wax). How do I know? I did it on my old Boxster just like you did.... then I liked it off and never put on a new one. Washing and waxing was way easier.

If you want a new one, just make a template from cardboard from the lid edge before you remove the old. (I did not do this, but this is the instructions my indy provided to me.)

Peace

If I take it off, I might put on the 991 P-O-R-S-C-H-E lettering. When I was picking up the Targa from a dealership near Chicago, Jossue stopped by to show me his 997 and to look at my new car. He had put on the "Porsche" lettering and it looked really nice. I have seen others on Rennlist that have done it and I think it looks pretty sweet.

Thanx... but to be totally honest with you, I am no car expert... I am a canine brain surgeon. Um... I really am a canine.

OP, you could use double sided tape from 3M (product #3609) and put the tail of the “g” back on, but it won’t look good with the crack. I had the same issue with my Carrera GTS emblem, didn’t break off but did snag, the C, G, T, and S would get caught on the towel. So I decided to replace it with a GTS vinyl decal in place of the emblem. Makes clearing the care MUCH easier.

I've been thinking about replacing my careera lettering with the simple 911 badge that came with the black edition

It's a "common problem" , unfortunately. But no big deal, it can easily be replaced, and may be time to play with the different badging options!

I have done the same. Do not bother repairing the existing emblem. Just go buy a new one and the install is very easy.

I vote that you install a "911" badge.

thanks everyone for the help and ideas

I think that in short term will use a little double sided tape to put piece back on...but will longer term replace the badge with either "911" or with "P-O-R-S-C-H-E"

You driving the wheels off that thing yet? lol that sucks about the g but looks like it will give you an excuse to put something else in place, the good thing is that if you if you don't like what you end up replacing these emblems is pretty easy

My "S" broke off recently for the same reason and i had to buy a whole new "Carrera GTS". Now I have "Carrera GT" leftover, too bad it wasn't one of those letters!!
