Couldn't get the 996 back so living with the 997
The dealership owner (indie) and I just couldn't speak the same numbers so I'm keeping the 997. Outside I enjoy walking around the 997...inside I consider the ergonomics a trainwreck. The only solution is to drive it for a year or so and then look to make a change then. Maybe the new stripper 911 coming out will over a better choice...but I'm just not a fan of the 991.
Thoughts in the meantime are running to changing out the white guage faces for black ones and when the time comes replacing the sport exhaust with a nice stock sound. On the positive side I do love the brakes and the tiptronic is proving to be nicely aggressive.
As the song said, when you can be with the one you love, love the one you're with.
Anyone else in that kind of a relationship with your 997?

Funny. I've never been a fan of the 996 droopy head light and turn signal combo.
The 991 look? Is growing on me. I have not driven one yet, it looks bigger. And I'm not sold on the electric steering craze. Notice how every model is getting bigger. Creepage. 996/997 bigger than the 964.
991 bigger than the 996/997.
I really liked the way my 997 was laid out interior wise. Black white silver. Everything where it's supposed to be. No mouse toggle, seven page menu to find the radio volume. Simple volume ****. Not too many nanny's.
I've been sad about selling every car I've even owned. Should have kept my (model number).
I could/would be a car hoarder, if I wasn't so poor.

2006 3.8 S - engine # 68600732 engine type M9701.
One owner full service records. No outstanding issues except a rattle in the sunroof. 60k service done at time of purchase, brakes (rotors and pads) done in October, all new Pirelli P Zero tires. Blah blah blah.
I wasn't afraid of the engine in my 996 and I'm certainly not worried about this one. Complete examination of the car by Porsche dealer and no issues found.

Before my 997's I had a 996...I liked the 996 a lot, but I like the 997 better inside & out, as well as its performance. But then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'd be very happy with a 996 in great shape. If you're intent on a 996, I'm sure you'd be able to find a willing 996 owner to swap with on Rennlist.

I have had both, 02 C4S and now 07 C2S. Just got rid of the 996 in January, picked this one up in January. The 02 C4S was so planted. It was so low. I loved it. The interior was full leather with a 997 shifter I put in. I loved it... until I got the 997. The leather is definitely thicker, instead of paper feeling. The shifter in the 997 is better than the 997 shifter in the 996. I have the sport exhaust and it is intoxicating, the ability to quiet it is awesome. The change to the oil temp guage is much better than the volts. The nav is so much better, my 996 was non-functional any longer due to updates and no disc for the area. The 997 is much more alive, understeers and oversteers when you push it. I felt like whatever I did to the 996 it would grip, the 997 I can play with all day. I like the look of the 997 much better. The one thing I do miss about the 996 is the window switches in the middle. Other than that... not much is missed.

Had a 993, a 996 and now a 997.1 and loved them all. As Willie Nelson would say "To all the cars I've loved before..."
About the only this on the 996 that I did not like was the "fried egg" headlight styling. Other than that, I thought the interior was wonderful ... along with everything else.
I feel like the "cockpit" of my 997.1 fits me more like the 993's did and I like that very much.
All wonderful cars in my opinion. I'd never kick one of these "girls" out of bed so to speak.

The 997 interior design is more in line with the traditional 911 interior up to the 993. The 996 diverged from that with curved elements that were not there before - it is an OK interior but not as classic as the 997.
The 991 interior maintains the rectilinear lines but adds bulk everywhere - doors, and huge elevated ramp console - in line with the 991's longer WB and GT cruiser bent. The 997 is the last 'small' functional interior, more appropriate for a basic sports car.

Funny, I was initially in the market for a 996 (just happened upon my 997 at an irresistible price) and the exterior looks were fine with me, headlights and all. Still can't understand all the hate for them. The interior however was another story. To me the 996 has a decidedly 90's Japanese air to it, a hodgepodge of styling cues. The 997 dash seems to flow better, the console controls are neater. Appreciate not having the dated cassette holders in plain view. And the shifter is more retro, I like that. Not that I wouldn't have been fine with the 996 interior, I just like the esthetics of the 997's better. It comes down to personal taste for sure, but apparently mine's in the overwhelming majority on this one. Frankly I never cared for the fact the 993 interior was mostly a carryover from the 60's. One man's iconic is another man's dated I suppose.
