Default Oil Change

Hi, I'm about the change the oil in my 06 C2s for the first time (the car is new to me) and was told I should let the oil drain for a prolonged period of time, by one friend, overnight. So, my questions: is this true and if so, is there any danger of the pump losing its prime (assume not if it's a dry sump, but thought I'd better ask to be sure)?

thanks

John

Just drain it. You don't have to get the last drop out. The oil that is left is not poison. The oil pumps do not need priming. I have been changing oil for over 50 years.
For the last 15 Porsche's. Before that Corvettes.

+1, everyone goes overboard with oil changes, etc. Grab a wrench and get after it.

Let it drain for 20-30 mins is good enough, if the oil is warm. If you have time or things to do, then let it sit longer.

Go grab a beer, finish it, come back to change your oil filter, look around and clean the engine bay, check the air filters, etc....and it'll be about time to put in the fresh oil.

Let the engine cool off so that the drain plug comes out easily. Hot cases and drain plug will result in higher break away torque being required.

I let my hot oil drain for a few hours. It drips out for ages.

Well considering a dealer oil change is typically an hour, I doubt you need much more time than that.
I wait about 20 minutes myself with a warm engine.
Besides, I'm changing every 5000 km
