Guidance on 2007 Targa - Chicagoland area
Hi
I posted a separate thread on color combos on 997 Targas....this is related to same car.
The car at this link is for sale for $55K:
http://www.zeiglermaseratiofgrandvil...BA29917S745213
Perfect color combo for me and low mileage BUT....no service records. We have tried the original dealership in Rhode Island but no luck. I can't believe that Porsche doesn't keep electronic records of service done at dealerships.
The CarFax report is clean.
What are your thoughts on purchasing a car with NO service history? I would of course do a PPI (any local recommendations of Indy's welcome) [NOTE - since posting did a quick search on Indy's and have leads to Fischer in Barrington and CPT in Melrose Park]
I live about 6 hour drive from where the car is located...so hard for me to go see it.
Thanks
David

That's the exact color combo of the 2009 Targa 4 I had / I love it! With miles that low I would guess the oil should have been changed annually at least, but maybe an oil sample might tell you how fresh the oil is.
If your serious about it you could go arrange a test drive and PPI.

I would get a PPI, primarily to check for over revs. Then do a full service (including plugs and brake fluid flush) or have the seller do it, and don't look back.
The price seems a little high for a .1 non-S, but you are paying a premium for the low miles. If you want a Targa, they don't come up that often, and yo may not see another one in the color combo you like.

Thanks guys
Motorwerks (dealer) in Barrington IL will do a full PPI (including over revs and paint thickness) for $480.
I also will need to make sure drive belt has been replaced as that is every 60K miles OR 6 years

Another data point for you:
About a month ago, I purchased a 2009 Targa 4S with 14k miles for $60k. I think the price was a little high, but I really liked the color (Porsche Racing Green), so I bit the bullet.
Hopefully you can get a good price on it (assuming everything checks out OK)- it's a great color too. The Targa is an awesome car. I just came back from a quick trip to Vegas (from Orange County, CA) with mine, and it was a blast.

Hi F308gt4 - given the other car sitting next to your Targa that is a great data point....
I do have to admit that I hope I don't regret not getting an "S". My daily driver (except in the winter) is a 2002 M5, which will probably be faster than the Targa 4 should I get it. I have found the M5 to have plenty of power for driving in my area...but reading all of the posts from folks with GT3s, etc. makes me begin to wonder if I will have power envy....

Hi Rennlisters - update on status.
Fischer Motors in Barrington IL will be doing a PPI on Thursday. I believe that they will give it a good inspection. I have talked to Nick their service manager a few times and he understands that I am out of the area so need them to really put the car through its paces.
If that goes well I am going to try and get up there on Saturday to look for myself.
question - any members in the area of Schaumburg that would be willing to give the car a look over on Friday before I make the trip? Thought I would at least ask.
Thanks!!

patriot993- I've been reading a lot of complaints on here about old tires.
Ask for the PPi to note the manufacturing date on the tires on the car. They will of course give you tread depth. But age of the tire is more important in your negotiations.

For fun, I used the build sheet decoder found here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...rom-vin-4.html
(go to second to last post on page 4 to see format to get it to work)
The Targa that I am interested in appears to have been purchased without a single option...is that a red flag or just strange? Or maybe the build sheet tool doesn't work...but basically when I run it I get back that it is a Targa 4 with:
Additional Equipment
E9
Midnight Blue Metallic
TF
Sand Beige Leather Seats
Thoughts?

It does appear that it has no options based on photos. I came across an '07 S with no options in my original search. What I ended up with only has Power Seats, Bose, and CD changer.
I don't think it is a red flag but could be considered unusual.
