Question Easy question for 997 owners

I am looking at a 2007C4 Targa. I went to look at it and of course opened the trunk lid take a looksie at the build/options sticker. Bit it was not there. There was one in the service book so my question is - did Porsche change where they put the sticker in the car? I am pretty sure it should be up there.

Clean CarFax but I did notice that the rubber gasket under the emblem was not properly centered and am almost 100% positive that it did not leave the factory that way.

Car is a "base" '07 C4 Targa - 58300 miles; dk blue over blk. I should have take a snap of the sticker in the book to decode but it was very light on option codes. I am thinking I will offer $35k given I think the hood was either replaced or repaired and repainted. They are asking $39500.

Thanks.

No more factory sticker under the trunk. It's in the maintenance book.

It was the responsibility of the dealership that sold the car new to put the options sticker on the underside of the hood so lots of them did not do it for whatever reason. That's good that you actually found the sticker in the service manual. People sometimes replace the emblem, maybe with a custom emblem with colors they want, so perhaps the gasket got messed up in that process. It would be an easy fix. Sounds like a good price to me assuming nothing is wrong with it.

Thanks you guys. I never would have guessed that they changed that. So the CarFax is right I suppose. Oh well , there goes a negotiating point. LOL.

Google 997 hood emblem and you'll find some youtube videos on how to replace.

I know how to replace as I have done it on several other of my cars as I moved my silver bbadge for car to car. It was surprising to see it off like that, that's all.

So the CarFax is right I suppose.
Never assume Carfax is 100 percent correct....never ever.

I'd still offer 35.

Car faxes are only good to exclude vehicles. I can't even count the number of cars(not just p-cars) that I've looked at over the years, with clean car fax, that have had some sort of re-paint. Can't recall a single owner disclosing this before I came to look at the car. That of course makes sense since they probably did their best to keep that off the car fax. "Oh now I remember why the paint is so thick on the roof, my kid jumped off the garage and landed on the roof 3 years ago" 150 dollar paint gauge from Amazon has saved me money on countless PPI's that I would have had performed while also leaving me disappointed with the dishonesty of the average sports/exotic/muscle car seller.
