PPI rev data - buy or walk?
ignitions in range1 28763-2912.8h
ignitions in range2 3323- 2815.9h
ignitions in range3 1143 - 2815.9h
ignitions in range4 650 - 2815.9h
ignitions in range5 331 - 2815.9h
ignitions in range6 1 - 2815.9h
Operating hours counter: 3055.200
Car has 79598 miles. Avg speed = 79598/3055 = 26.6 mph
Looks like its been 240 hours since the range 6 counter got tripped. Mechanic tends to think that because the hours since that happened, compression test is not necessary. Car doesn't appear to have been tracked in his opinion (I'm purchasing the car remotely).

The mechanic doing the PPI seems to think the crash data is due to battery dying or something and doesn't the car doesn't appear to have been in a crash. He said he even called the P dealership and they told him the same thing - sometimes these things just appear. The body panels etc are in perfect alignment.
As per him this is a 7/10 mechanically. Drives good etc.
So what do you guys say - buy or walk away from this car?!!

If you can afford a cleaner example you should. Unless this has some rare impossible to find options and color combo I would keep looking. It looks like someone just did a bad shift and it was awhile ago but still.
Range 5 is pretty bad news.

Extrapolating, it appears car had 74k miles on it at 2815.9 hours. It now was 79.5k miles.
I'm getting the car at what I believe is a good price - 2006 carrera S 'vert for $32.5k. It is worth the risk?
The car does need new tires ($1k), battery and the trunk latch doesn't open from inside the car (opens from key fob).

Personally, I'd spend a few $k more for a cleaner car.

Just my personal opinion, but there will always be better cars to come along.
A 7/10 car with that kind of over rev report, adds up to too many questions for my own comfortable level of risk taking.
Has the IMS been upgraded?

The P.O. of my '95 997 C2 blew the engine, and had it rebuilt in 2013 for a cool 22k. Yes, that includes 3.8 nickies, ims solution, new clutch and pressure plate etc. The PPI I had done came back with comments that it is a strong car, and runs great. I wouldn't pay 32k+ for a mediocre example. You will always have additional surprises to fix that either develop or the PPI missed. Buy the best car you can afford.

Would only consider a car with that report with a compression and leakdown test and everything else about the car was perfect and exactly what you wanted. Even so, an over-rev like that might stress components that won't be revealed with those tests.
