Default Deck lid fan housing fix

Anyone have some ideas on how I could fix this without removing and replacing the entire part. The housing is still connecting to the fan but only by a couple pieces of plastic.

Safely? Probably not.

Here are your options:
1) Remove and replace the fan assembly with a new part.
2) Remove the fan and housing and do the following:
a) Epoxy the broken plastic
b) Fasten the broken parts together with screws/bolts and a plastic bridge
3) Leave the fan housing in place and duct tape that mother

If the damage isn't that bad, epoxying may be a good solution, but you'd need to remove the housing to ensure it was done correctly.

There really isn't anyway to fix an item that has literally broken (broken plastic) while still mounted in place. You could attempt to epoxy it in a custom jig that kept all the parts in the correct OEM position and then clamp it in place. If you try that, be sure to clean everything thoroughly.

Hope that helps.

It's hard to tell from the picture exactly what is broken but either clamps or a small locking pliers is what you would want:

Again, I highly recommend you just take off the fan. It's pretty simple. If you don't have a torx set you can use a regular star or hex socket in a pinch. hell, these bolts aren't torqued too hard. A pair of pliers would work but be careful not to strip the torx heads.

And if you own a Porsche you should own a set anyway:

Definitely will be purchasing a torx set. For now I duct taped the fan in place and epoxied the **** out of the broken plastic connectors.

LMFAO... holy sh** you actually did that. Well, more power to you. I hope it holds. Duct tape on a 911 just seems... wrong... but at the same time these are great DIY cars so have at it.

I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling we'll be seeing you back here WTB a fan housing in a few weeks... GLWfan

The entire fan assembly can be bought online for about $100. I'd replace instead of repair as well.

No idea how it broke but here is the finished product. All the joints feel extremely solid. Had the two part epoxy already so it cost me nothing to fix. Duct tape was just there to hold it in place.

How does this happen, anyway? Did somebody leave something in the engine bay, then shut the lid on top of it?

I've been known to MacGyver my fair share of broken items. While I too appreciate your effort, if that fan comes loose, scratches your bumper or over heats the engine, your cost savings will be lost.
I would call Germanparts.ca get your part ordered.
And your engine lid is filthy. Scrub that thing while your fan is out.

So the epoxy fix didn't work. It broke about half way through the day after a rough drive around the city.

http://germanparts.ca/ doesn't have the replacement. They tell me I have to call porsche.

In the mean time can someone send me a link to an inexpensive torx socket set.
