AFAIK, all of the Porsche 997 center caps are plastic. You can source some metal ones from other vendors...maybe here:

Believe some of the earlier 911 models (996) had metal center caps.

Default Colored Crests

Chrono,

If you're looking to buy some, I have a brand new set, in original Porsche box, unopened which I will sell for $150, plus freight. Retail was $212.
PM me if interested.

Thanks, that's a great deal for somebody, you should post them. For me, this information is more for a historical perspective. The plastic ones do not impress. Much like some of the interior acoutromon.

I've had a 964, 993, 996, and now a 997. All center caps have been plastic with the exception of the metal covered plastic caps on the CL wheels.

interesting to know this-

the older cars (at least up to 89) were all metal in my experience. i've never taken the caps off my car and never noticed that they weren't metal.

to be honest- I think they are likely better in plastic as they seem to be a much tighter fit. The metal caps inevitably get loose and the spot welds between the outer cover and the ring cap often fail.

I highly recommend buying OEM here. The aftermarket quality is junk. I have yet to see an aftermarket that fits a 997.1 worth the $50 to $100 savings. You end up buying them twice.

My Chinese knockoffs are holding tight. In fact, I'm very happy with my Chinese Porsche wheels (see avatar). The only Porsche guy that has called me out on them was the service manager at a Porsche dealership. He noted the outer lip not polished. However, I know that I got what I paid for, and the first time I hit a curb they are likely to explode as Ferdinand giggles from beyond the grave.

There is no pricing on that booths site, any ballpark on what a set costs from them?

I haven't purchased from him in 4 years - prices used to be posted. You'll probably have to contact him.

Porsche transitioned from metal center caps for financial reasons. The days of the Fuchs alloys with their metal center caps are long gone. While extremely durable, I've been impressed that the Italian made plastic caps for today's "911s" seem to hold up quite well.
