Default Engine Temps

Guys, what is normal for our cars when driving. Obviously highway will be different than around town but lets go with around town. I noticed my temps between 200 and 225 around town, depending on how much stop and go, sometimes creeps a little above 225. I usually run with the spoiler up to let more air flow in.

I ask because first, wondering if thats the normal range. Second, right now having the Techart spoiler painted and then installed next week. Since it has smaller airvents, might cause increase in engine temp with less airflow. Comanche has the same spoiler so I messaged him to see if any difference.

?

Thanks

On hot days I get 200 around town if going above say 4k rpm consistently..when sitting at 3k rpm or less im generally lower, like around 180-190 or so. Only on the track does oil temp exceed 200. This is somewhat regardless of weather as well. Just some good ol' anecdotal 997.2 c2s owner info. I also have 2 radiators, not 3.

Assuming you do not have a 3rd radiator, I'd say your temps are normal for in and around town driving. If you have Sport or Sport+ modes and use them a lot, then you may see slightly higher temps but nothing to be concerned about. Doubt you will see much change with your Techart spoiler versus OEM.

180 to 190 seems kind of low. I'm usually around 200, unless I use it on sport mode and drive a little more aggressive.

I am at 200 after say 20 minutes of driving. Even today at freezing temperatures. I do creep into the 215-220 range during the summer on an identical ride. Sounds normal.

+1 same here, but my car never sees freezing. These cars take a long time to warm up.

I know right? I think this too. I'm not concerned as it heats up on track as it should; I probably just baby the engine alot when it's not at the track. (I know all the jacked-up bro trucks with confederate flags that tailgate me think so! )

Thanks everyone, sounds like all is well then..I read something about changing the thermostat to run a little cooler but will wait on that until next service and then ask my shop what they think.

I spent a day at Thunderhill over the weekend, definitely got the ol' grey frog warmed up, and temps remained surprisingly reasonable. Never got upwards of the 250 I was kind of expecting, so I don't think you're going to have any worries with that Type III wing.

Super fun by the way.

The idea behind switching to a low temp thermostat is that it will be fully open earlier and the engine will get full coolant flow sooner which may help prevent hot spots and related catastrophic engine failures. It will also cause the engine to warm up a little slower, but from my experience it's not that much different. For my car, 225-250 used to be common on a hot day after running for 30+ minutes but now it typically runs a hair under 200. I also added the 3rd front radiator which helps too.

This weekend I did a PCA autocross and the car was running for well over an hour and I was pushing it hard on the track. The outside temps were only low 70's but it was sunny and it still only peaked as high as 210-215 briefly during the autocross. It kept dropping back down to 200 between runs.
