Default 2006 997 Engine and transmission

I am sourcing for a 2006 997.1 engine (3.8L) Tiptronic. I had a question for the great experts on the forum. I know the model year is 2005 - 2008. The car is an S with tiptronic S (whatever that means) and PASM.

I have seen lots of engines that come with a manual tranny. It would be great to get the tip tranny and engine together but doesn't look like that is going to happen. If I get an engine that was mated to a manual can I just take the engine and find a tip somewhere else?

I can imagine that these two items will be difficult to find, not to mention pricey. It's almost to the point where an engine failure can render the car uneconomical to fix.

From my understanding you can use the engine. This is based on knowledge from other cars and not Porsche specific. Usually what you would have to change is just the flywheel from the manual setup to the new auto/tip, then mate up the transmission. As long as your car was originally a tip car you should have all the components for it to work properly after its swapped in. Hopefully some others can chime in.
