When I was selling my 996, I had done the 30K service myself, had receipts for the parts but no entry on carfax. When looking at a trade-in, they dinged me for having no record of the service. I sold it myself, private party, and the PPI also reflected no record of service, but the buyer trusted me and was unconcerned. So, short answer: it depends.

Mmmmmm. Maybe. Of course, some of us just like to tinker with the car too, and it's not just about saving money.

I sold my 993 to a guy who questioned my ability to do the 30K service myself (it was a PITA on that car). I said, "look, it's been a 1000 miles since I did it and nothing has fallen off." That was in 2001, and he still has the car. And nothing has fallen off.

I concur. Being a one owner is nice. If he had service records that would help (if he can find them or reproduce them) and you are in Kalifornia, where prices tend to be high. It's also winter, not a great time to sell a sports car. Sounds like the seller doesn't quite have his ducks lined up well. You should be patient and work on him until the price is more reasonable.
