Default Engine out - what upgrades/repairs should I do?

I am the lucky winner of a scored cylinder in my 2006 997.1 c4s (65k miles), and while the engine is getting rebuilt I figure this would be a prime opportunity to take care of repairs/upgrades that otherwise would require removing the engine? I am not necessarily looking for go-faster-parts, but it would be great to take care of stuff that would make a positive difference and/or make the car less likely to revisit the shop in the near future. Any suggestions?

thanks,

-andreas

Definitely the spark plugs! It's hard to upgrade perfection! Good luck!

While you're doing the plugs do the ignition coils. I'd also replace the water pump.

Cool - thanks guys/gals. The waterpump and coils were replaced last year, and the engine guys are doing the spark plugs (and IMS, chain guides, overhauling heads/valves, replacing crank shaft bearing). The engine is in good hands - I was mostly curious about the rest of the car (motor mounts etc).

thanks,

I would consider replacing the AOS also. (Air Oil Separator). It might be a good idea to put in a new clutch kit while things are apart also.

AOS is already on the list - does it make sense to install the GT3 version? I thought I read somewhere that this is better.

I forgot to mention... The coolant tank is something that you may want to do while engine is out. If it starting to yellow, now is the time to replace. If engine is in the car, it is so hard to remove without removing fuel injector manifold, or lowering the engine.

I was thinking about the engine mounts but was not sure. Sorry - should have specified that this is a tip.

Really depends on what they find, I had mine rebuilt last year and while I didn't go for any go faster upgrades, I went for a closed deck design. Looks like the rebuild shop has got most things covered, you might also want to look at new pistons, stronger IMS bearing and spindle, plus a lower temp thermostat!

Alternator cable if you suspect you have slow cranking or any battery issues. It's a cheap part and easy to do with engine out.
