Default Power Outlets on by default?

I might be one of the few but I don't like it that the car's power outlet is on by default. When I turn of my car, I would have thought it would cut power to the power outlet. I need to always turn of my detector and any other device connected as I worry about it draining the battery. Is there a way to change the behavior that when the car is switched off, electricity is not sent to the power outlets? Thats how my other car works.

Also, as a side question, if any of you have phone holder mounted, where have you found most convinient and aesthetic to mount it?

Thanks much for any help in advance.

Had the same issue on the detector, hardwired it.

On our cars, the lighter isn't just an output but is often used for the maintenance charger input to keep the battery fresh for cars that don't get out much. It wouldn't be usable that way if it was switched.

As Jumpin' Joe points suggests, and as I did as well, I ran my own power feed for my radar detector to a switched power source in the fuse box. You can find threads here and on 6speedonline and renntech.org covering this. Be sure the check the DIY sections.

There are also several long threads about phone mounts, I'd suggesting scanning those. I'm very happy with the ProClip mount, the one that fits above the PCM just a short hands reach and a glance away.

+ 1 on the Pro Clip. I like the vent mount so you don't have to scan down. No affiliation, but after installing it on the 997.2 I bought one for the Lexus 400h and then another one for the F250. All of my cradles include the charging plug. On the 997.2 the cable routes into the glove box and stays virtually out of sight.

12V outlets on. They need to be to support battery maintainers.

Radar detector - best practice is to remove it from the car when the car is parked. Cars are routinely broken in to steal radar detectors (even if hardwired). VR is quite clear about this.

A poster a night or two ago popped a fuse when his battery maintainer cord was broken. He posted a fuse table that indicated a separate fuse for each outlet so I would imagine you could rewire one to a switched source. I would consult a full electrical diagram to verify that nothing critical is shared on the fuse. Alternatively you could simply re wire the outlet to a switched branch. Ideally this would be pre fuse with in line fuse added to avoid over loading another circuit.

Rewire...PIWIS won't do it.

Hate rewiring, though i know what has to ve done, nowadays im too lazy to do these things. 20 years ago it would have been done in a jiffy but....too bad, was hoping coding could do it.
