Looks like hot coolant leak. Coolant is pink. But I have no idea why it would eat the rubber like that. Either that or battery acid leaking. Better get that fixed asap!!

Deposit? That is no deposit. You have sprung a leak! Don't drive that car. Get it to the dealer immediately...

that should correlate with quite a puddle on the floor under the car.

leaky water pump or tank. Do not pass got, go directly to dealer or indy and give one thousand dollars, or if you have a warranty, beg them to honor it?

if it is 2009 car with CPO it should be covered. looks like a crack in the rubber hose or coupler to me.

Sounds like its got to be coolant... level is a bit low, car is not running hot, nothing really on the floor. Battery is in front on this model. Anyone have experience with slow leak failure...in any other brand, I'd suspect water pump.

Dealer trip coming....I've only put 5K miles on it since buying it Aug 2013.

Yes, I was stupid to suggest that it was battery acid.....its my first rear engine car, forgive me. For punishment I forced myself to go read posts on Bimmerworld.

I had a similar but lesser coolant leak at another hose connection that is built just like that. It was 100% covered by CPO if you have it.

Oh gawd, it wasn't THAT bad of a mistake. The punishment you chose is excessively cruel and unusual.

To close this thread out for future reference:

Took it to the dealer, it was a coolant leak from seals and plastic tube near the thermostat. They said they dropped the engine and removed the exhaust to reach it. Replaced the plastic tube and about 1/2 dozen seals, but not water pump or thermostat (claimed they are not at risk). 100% covered under my CPO package, though I did a minor oil service and brake fluid change, so they got me for $500 on that visit.

I did see other discussion on rennlist about that plastic tube breaking.....I asked dealer service rep, who claimed the newer ones are better and should not repeat the problem. We shall see.....
