Default Do you love your R8?

I usually think these questions are useless, since the asker himself ultimately has to answer it. And, here I am doing it. I am considering an R8/V10/manual/coupe. I would have to sell my beautiful GTS cab, with all options and red leather. It is a wonderful car, and may be a keeper, but the R8 keeps pulling. I have a GT3 for track, so have the raw and would never trade a GT3 (on waiting list for RS), but wondering if those of you with R8s love it like a 911.

Personally, the R8 never excited me. It's beautiful and sounds great but it's not a useful around town car. Blind spots are horrible, both the V8 and V10 are a boat. The V8 especially is underpowered. The interior isn't very exciting...just another Audi.

^Hey, is that your GT3RS in the signature? If so, I've either seen it a couple of times (in front of Morimoto and on 12 headed toward Sonoma; oh, and nice license plate!) or I've seen it's twin. Either way, quite a head turner!

Apologies for the off topic post!

I've had the same thought. The R8 looks beautiful, those who has one, loves it. It's a more attractive car to the general public. I love my 911 but after getting a 981 BS, I'm beginning to drive it less and less.

Personally I can't understand why anyone would pay that kind of coin for an Audi when they could have a Porsche for the same money, but I'm a Porsche owner and this is the Porsche forum and I expect there would be a ton of reasons why over on an Audi forum.

I used to lust after the R8's....and then I drove one around a track. I did not like the handling at all and the interior kinda reminded me of driving an audi S4.

I drove it back to back after a porsche 997.2 turbo and instantly regretted not driving more laps in the porsche.

my 2 cents.

The big problem is that it isn't a Porsche.
A Porsche is special. An R8 is just an Audi.
I am sure the R8 is an amazing car, but for me I would be keeping the Porsche.

Yes, my car in the Avatar, and not RS--but, the only place you would have seen it would be Mid-Ohio, VIR, Watkins Glen, Putnam Park, NCM, Road America, Barber or Roebling. It's never been that far West!

I've never owned an R8. I've driven an Audi R8 V10 on the track before and I did consider buying one instead of my 997 TT for a short period of time.

I think the R8 is a very nice looking car and it was very capable on the track. I do think the side blades ruin the lines of the car, but there are fixes for that. Unfortunately, the R8 really seems to lack the character that you get in a 911. As others have said, the interior is a bit bland. It does have a sexy exhaust note, but it's just no comparison to a 911.

All depends on whether you like how the R8 drives IMO.

Surprised at the "just an Audi" comments because the R8 has a much more exotic shape than the 911. So much so, that the R8 will garner a lot more attention from people as you drive around town. That may be a positive or negative in your view.

No direct experience, but my neighbor went from a 996C4S cab to an Audi RS4 to an Audi V10 R8 to a 991 Turbo S. Says he really liked the Audi interlude, but nothing beats the feel and sound of a Porsche.
